Dear Parents,
Well it is finally here, the end of the school year. A time of mixed emotions : joy and elation yet sadness at the same time. This
year has been a very successful one in all areas: we have won several sporting interschool competitions this year ( or within the
top three); the School Band and The Choir won in the Junior Musician; we have won an exclusive trip to the Guardian in London
next term; and the scarecrow competition to name a few of them. This week we have gained two further wins! Our gardening
Club entered the Rotary Club Butterfly Garden Competition and won the shield beating nine other Glossop schools.
Congratulations to the club and Mrs Armitage and all the parent helpers who have ensured the win. Secondly, the Kitchen Staff
have won the prestigious Gold Award from Derbyshire County Council for their catering service. This is a great achievement
due to their hard work. Congratulations to them!
Finally our Year 6 results are fantastic once again with many of the children beating their target. Two children even reached a
level 6. 50% of the class managed to achieve a level5 in Reading which is high and 42% reached it in Maths. Congratulations
children as you have worked so hard with the help of all your teachers over the year s in school.

Year 6 – a talented bunch!
This year’s Year 6 have risen to the challenge very well and have proven to be a excellent year group. They have represented
the school many times and we have all been proud of their behaviour and attitude. You all are a credit to your families and the
fact that you have all tried to achieve your best in you work is just that extra bonus. Well done and good luck in the future. You
are all welcome to come to see us in the future.

Year 1 Teacher.
I am pleased to announce that the governors have appointed a new teacher, Miss Etchells for September in Year 1. I know that
she will be made to feel warmly welcomed into our school community by all.

Mrs Poke.
Today we say goodbye to Mrs Poke. We would love her to stay as she has been an excellent member of our school team; caring
and considerate and always professional. The children will miss her deeply too as we will. But we have to say good bye. We
wish her every success at her new school – St Mary’s Marple Bridge.

Attendance:
You will notice at the end of the letter statistics about attendance. Our overall school attendance is 95% which is good and is
maintained the good level since last year. Year r 5 and 6 were just short of 96% which is great. There are stricter rulings on
authorised absences coming into force for the next academic year which I shall share with you in the new term.
                                                                     th rd
School closes today for the summer holidays re-opening on Tuesday 4 September, Monday 3 being an INSET day for staff.
