"Slieve Russell Press Release"
SLIEVE RUSSELL TO HOST PGA PRO-AM FOR 20th TIME IN SEQUENCE The Slieve Russell will stage a PGA Pro-Am for the 20th time in succession having played host for the first time in October 1993, and it is expected that the Professional Prize-fund will be €30,000. There was of course a Charity element from 1996 when some famous Irish Professionals started to support the event, which culminated in a few hundred thousand euro’s being contributed to national and local charities, up to last year. The first event was won by Martin Sludds, with Michael Bannon in 2nd and David Jones in 3rd place and other Professionals that have visited include Padraig Harrington, Des Smyth, Christy O’Connor Jnr, Eamonn Darcy and more recently Damien McGrane and Peter Lawrie. The Irish Club Professionals that have entered over the years include Brendan McGovern, Damian Mooney, John Dignam, Robert Giles and Leslie Walker. For this coming year the Slieve Russell Pro-Am will take place on Monday 11th June and Tuesday 12th June – the week of the U.S.Open – and because of the constant and decisive interest in this Hotel and Golf Resort it is expected again that over 40 Teams will be playing. One relevant and interesting feature is that the price package for an Amateur Team has been reduced by €200 per Team. End
