In order to “survive” on our Classroom Island, you will need to work with your tribe. Keep these
guidelines; you are responsible for them.

Your tribe consists of the 5 to 6 people chosen by Ms. Cummins to work with you. You may not make
any changes.

Give your tribe a name. Choose a tribal leader. The tribal Leader’s responsibility will be to account to
Ms. Cummins for the work, progress, and action of your tribe.

                                                “Outlast”
Individuals who choose not to cooperate with their tribe will be cast off their tribe. As needed we
will hold tribal councils. Each tribe will be given the opportunity to “vote off the island” any tribe
mate that does not cooperate. Students that have been “voted off the island” will be required to
complete all group work alone. These “castaways” will not participate in group discussions, games,
or competitions. They will be given a writing assignment to complete instead.

                                                                                                           2

Tribes will complete daily to earn “Immunity.” No one will be voted out of the class. The tribe
with “Immunity” will win rewards. They will be allowed out of the room to use the bathroom or
to get a drink of water without using their privilege points. They will also be allowed to wear
hats and chew gum. In addition, they will be the first group of students to leave the
classroom at the end of class. The tribe with the lowest number of points will need to leave
the class last, pick up any trash, straighten desks, and straighten bookcases.
