The New Jerusalem by HWLKWPQ8

The New Jerusalem is a post-millennium city because it does not come into view until
after the Millennium when time ends and eternity begins. Let’s look into the Gospel of
John 14:1-6 Jesus speaking to His disciples then, and He continues to speak to His
children today through these verses of Scripture, and throughout the Bible.
“Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in Me. 2. In My Father’s
house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a
place for you. 3. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive
you unto Myself; that where I am there, there ye may be also. 4. And whither I go ye
know, and the way ye know. 5. Thomas saith unto Him, Lord we know not whither ye go;
and how can we know the way? 6. Jesus saith unto Him, I am the way, the truth, and the
life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me.

The final destination, and permanent dwelling place for the Church is New Jerusalem.
We will be with Christ during the Kingdom Age (Millennium), after which we will be
carried to New Jerusalem.

Jesus is the only Way to get to Heaven and finally New Jerusalem. He is the One who
stands between us and God The Father. Jesus is the one and only Mediator;
I Timothy 2:5. For there is one God, and one Mediator between God and men, the Man
Christ Jesus.

All who go to Heaven, or plan on going, absolutely must go God’s Way, for He is the
only Way. It is by grace through faith in Him alone, trusting Him 100% for salvation.

Acts 4:12. Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under
heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

Revelation 21:1-2.
And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were
passed away; and there was no more sea.
Vs. 2. And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of
heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.

Since New Jerusalem descends from God out of Heaven, evidently it must have been the
place in Heaven to which Christ went to prepare for His Church, the bride, the Lambs

Vs. 9. And there came unto me one of the seven angels which had the seven vials full of
the seven last plagues, and talked with me, saying, Come hither, I will shew thee the
bride, the Lamb’s wife.
Vs.10. And he carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain, and shewed me
that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God.
Vs. 11. Having the glory of God: and her light was like unto a stone most precious, even
like a jasper stone, clear as a crystal; (possibly like a diamond).

I confess, sometimes we try to read between the lines when we don’t clearly understand
the lines. But when the Bible speaks loud and clear, I will take my stand for what it
declares, no matter what. I don’t understand it fully, but I fully believe it, from the
beginning of the Book of Genesis to the very end of the Book of Revelation. The Word of
God is preserved for us in the form of the blessed ‘Authorized King James Version‘. It
has been in print and use for almost 400 years.
In this study I will only be scratching the surface, so to speak. God’s Word is so rich and
powerful we are unable to thoroughly understand it. It is the greatest Book ever written,
because He is the Author. We must know the Author to be able to understand His Book
because it is Spiritually discerned It is impossible for the carnal mind to study, and
rightly divide the Word.
I Cor. 2:14 “But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they
are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually
Holy men wrote as they were inspired by God to write. Therefore the Bible is a God
breathed Book, the only one of its kind. His Word is absolutely pure and true, and it is
eternal and infallible. Therefore, I want always, to study and do my very best to
understand everything possible. I want to know about my destiny, for I am a traveling
pilgrim, just passing through this land, on my way to heaven. There is no stopping place
here for the soul, only for the body. I am absolutely sure, that when we get home, we
certainly will not be disappointed. There will be no disappointments for His children in
that fair land, the Eternal City of New Jerusalem. Our thoughts about the City now, will
absolutely be far beyond out expectations then, and more that we could possibly imagine
in our mortal mind. See the following verses in Isaiah chapter 55:8-9 “For My thoughts
are not your thoughts, neither are My ways your ways, saith the Lord. For as the heavens
are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than
your thoughts.”
Some Bible scholars believe New Jerusalem will descent to the New Earth, some believe
it will be a satellite city suspended in space. I prefer to believe the latter. I will not argue
with anyone about this. John was permitted to see the New Heaven and the New Earth,
then He saw New Jerusalem descending from God out of Heaven, the place to which
Jesus went to prepare for His bride, long before the passing away of the earth and the
heaven, and the creation of the new earth and the new heaven. I personally think the third
Heaven is a permanent place because of what the Scripture says in II Corinthians 4:18,
“ While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for
the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.”
We don’t see Heaven, neither do we see hell. Both places, according to the Scriptures are
eternal. The first and second heaven will pass away, the elements will melt with fervent
heat, the earth also and the works within, because all creation has been contaminated with
sin and is groaning with distress. Both mankind and the rest of God’s creation will share
in these birth pains, as they together anticipate the joy that follows the pain of birth. The
creation groans for the coming of the Messiah, along with believers.
Romans 8:22-23 “For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain
together until now. And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the first-fruits of
the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit the
redemption of our body.”

New Jerusalem; The Bible does not say New Jerusalem will, or will not, descend to the
earth. I see it as being a satellite City suspended in space. It will give light to the whole
universe, for the glory of God, and the Lamb is the light thereof. I see the four square
City of gold surrounded with, “Shekinah Glory,” which speaks of divine presence, the
manifestation of the presence of God, and it will completely envelop the City.

I John 1:5. This is the message which we have heard of Him, and declare unto you, that
God is light, and in Him is no darkness at all.
Revelation 21:23 “And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it:
for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.”

There will be no shadows in eternity, absolutely none, in the New Heaven, the New earth,
or New Jerusalem. Everything and everyone will be surrounded with the glory of God,
and the Lamb will be the light thereof.

New Jerusalem will be like a giant sparkling diamond set in gold, clear as a crystal. We
cannot even begin to comprehend the magnificent beauty of that wonderful and majestic
City. No one can truly describe its beauty. We just don’t have, and can’t find the fitting
words to do so, because our limited human vocabulary isn’t sufficient. All we can truly
understand about it is the information God has given in His precious Word. I praise, and
thank the Lord for giving me a mind to think, and to meditate on the wonderful things
He has in store for us, His children. I cannot fully understand everything now, but in
eternity, with a perfect mind, we shall.
New Jerusalem is the habitation, the eternal home, the prepared place, for the Church, the
Bride. It will descend from God, out of the third Heaven after the Millennium. We will be
with the Lord during the Millennium, after which, we will move into our eternal Home,
“The New Jerusalem.” Oh! What a blessed thought!

Jesus said, “In My father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told
you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come
again, and receive you unto Myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.” John 14:2, 3.

When the Lord moves us to that Wonderful City, we will live inside it. We now live on
the surface of the earth, not inside. Just think of walking into that City, at any one of the
twelve Gates of pearl onto the street of pure gold, and into the City of Gold, 1500 miles
square, with walls 144 cubits, or 216 feet thick, 1500 miles high, and having 12
foundations, and view that majestic and indescribable foursquare City of pure gold. We
should be crying out now; hallelujah! Hallelujah!!! to our God, the only God, the God of
Creation, the Most High, the Most Holy One, the Lord God Almighty, who prepared such
a wonderful place for His bride, to Him be all praise, honor, and glory now, and forever!
New Jerusalem has twelve gates, three on each side of solid pearl. The names of the 12
tribes of the children of Israel are written thereon. See Rev. 21:12.

Psalms chapter twenty four speaks of the Millennial Kingdom on earth, the theme is a
song of joy, which accompanies the return of the “King of glory.” The words are found
in verses 7-10 “Lift up your heads, O ye gates; and be ye lift up, ye everlasting doors;
and the King of glory shall come in. Who is this King of glory? The Lord strong and
mighty, the Lord mighty I battle. Lift up your heads, O ye gates; even lift them up, ye
everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come. Who is this King of glory? The Lord
of hosts, He is the King of glory.”

Read chapters 21 & 22 of Revelation, describing the wonderful City of New Jerusalem.
We just get a glimpse of its beauty as we prayerfully read and study. In these chapters,
we read of seven new things; the new heaven; the new earth; the New Jerusalem; the new
people; the new temple, the Lord God Almighty, and the Lamb; the new light, the glory
of God, and the Lamb; the new Paradise.

The “Water of Life” in chapter 22.

!. And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the
throne of God and of the Lamb.
2. In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life,
which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of
the tree were for the healing of the nations.

Some scholars believe that the leaves of the trees are for the healing of nations during the
millennium. This is cited in:

Ezekiel 47:12 “And by the river upon the bank thereof, on this side and on that side, shall
grow all trees for meat, whose leaf shall not fade, neither shall the fruit thereof be
consumed: it shall bring forth new fruit according to his months, because their waters
they issued out of the sanctuary: and the fruit thereof shall be for meat, and the leaf
thereof for medicine.”

The scholars, still commenting on the leaves of the trees, Verse 2 chapter 22, they say it
could mean “(figuratively) the blessings of God in the eternal state.” These comments
are worth examining, because there will be mortals who will inhabit the earth along with
the saints who will be with Christ the King, when He returns to this earth. There will be
children born to mortal parents, and will have the choice to receive or reject Christ. There
will be death, simply because of the bodies of flesh which enter the Millennial Kingdom.
The Lord judges, immediately, I believe, when sin is committed. He rules with a rod of
iron, see Rev. 2:27. The Lord Jesus will be the Supreme Judge, and Ruler. He is now,
and forever will be, the Almighty One. There will be peace during the 1000 year reign,
because He is the Prince of Peace, and He will make sure that peace prevails.
The following verse in the Book of Isaiah, must be speaking of the Millennium;

Isaiah 65:20.There shall be no more thence an infant of days, nor an old man that hath
filled (fulfilled) his days: for the child shall die an hundred years old; but the sinner being
an hundred years old shall be accursed.
(Someone dying 100 years old during the Millennium, would be considered a child).

One thing we know, in eternity there will absolutely be no possibility of sin invading the
Holy City. Sin will have already been completely abolished when the devil was cast into
the ‘lake of fire.’ There will be no more sin throughout all eternity. Praise the Lord, Love
will reign supremely forever, (I John 4:8“.…….for God is Love”).
Revelation 22:3 “And there shall be no more curse; but the throne of God and of the
Lamb shall be in it; and His servants shall serve Him.”

The effects of the post-Eden curse (Gen. 3:14-19) will be totally gone forever. The Lord’s
saints will serve Him and reign with Him forever in our glorified bodies.
Vs. 4. And they shall see His face; and His name shall be in their foreheads.
The name of God in their foreheads shows ownership and consecration.

I don’t feel worthy of looking upon His face now, but then we will be able to do so, in
spite of our feelings of unworthiness now. It will be different when we will stand before
Him in our glorified, completely changed, sinless, perfect, and immortal bodies. We
shall see His face and bow in His presence and worship Him forever, along with all the

Christ gave Himself a ransom for all, and paid our sin debt in full, with His precious,
innocent, incorruptible blood, suffering at the hands of wicked, and cruel men. Yet He
prayed for them, even after He was nailed to the cross. The love of God is greater far,
than tongue or pen could ever tell.
Hebrews 10:10. By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of
Jesus Christ once for all.
When a person is saved he is set apart for the Master’s use, saved from hell for Heaven,
and to serve Him here and now.
Vs. 12. But this Man, after He had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down on the
right hand of God;

His work of redemption was finished on the cross, it was completed. Nothing can be
added, neither can anything be taken away from it.
Colossians 2:10. And ye are complete in Him, which is the head of all principality and
Colossians 3:2-4 Set your affections on things above, not on things on the earth.
Vs. 3. For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.
Vs. 4. When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with Him in
In these verses and the preceding verses of Scripture we see what the Lord has done for
us to get us to heaven, and what we, in the mean time, should be doing for Him.
Hebrews !0:14. For by one offering He hath perfected forever them that are sanctified.”
Therefore we have a sure hope.
Hebrews 6:19. Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, and
which entereth into that within the veil.

Our hope is in Heaven, the blessed Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. Of course He is
everywhere present, because He is God.
Some of the things that must happen before the descending of New Jerusalem from God.
* The Rapture, or catching up of the saints to meet the Lord in the air………. (John 14:3;
I Corinthians 15:51-58; I Thessalonians 14:13-18; Revelation 4:1)
* We must stand before Christ at the judgment seat……Romans 14:10-12; 1 Corinthians
Chapter 3, etc.
* The Marriage Supper of the Lamb…..Revelation 19:6-10.
* The tribulation period of 7 years. See Daniel 9:24; Matthew 24:15 & ref. Daniel’s 70 th
week, etc. * Possibly at the beginning of the Tribulation, Russia and her satellite nations
will invade Israel, God will intervene supernaturally and destroy their armies. Ez. 38-39.
* Christ returns with His saints, and ends the battle of Armageddon with the sword that
proceeded out of His mouth. The devil will be bound 1000 years and cast into the
bottomless pit. See Revelation 20.
* Christ sets up His Millennium Kingdom, He will be The King & we will rule with Him
for 1000 years. See Revelation chapter 20 & references.
* At the end of the millennium, the devil will be released for a short time and will make
his final attempt against God, defeated and cast into the Lake of Fire. Rev. 20:1-3.
* The Great White Throne judgment, all the unsaved will be judged there and cast into
the lake of fire. See Revelation 20:11-15. This takes place after the doom of satan..
* After the great White Throne judgment, the Day of the Lord. The Day of the Lord, I
believe, begins with the Tribulation, and is an extended period of time followed by the
millennium, the brief rebellion led by the devil against God at the end of the millennium,
and the Great White Throne Judgment; * then the Day of the Lord II Peter 3:10:

“But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall
pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also
and the works that are therein shall be burned up.”

Jesus returns for the saints, the Tribulation begins immediately, both events will happen
unexpectedly, and consecutively, the Rapture and the beginning of the Tribulation, as a
thief in the night.
The prophets and the Lord Jesus used the term “Day of the Lord”. It begins with the
Tribulation after the Rapture, and ends when the earth and elements are melted with fire.
Verse 7 says, “But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept
in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.
After the Millennium the Lord moves His Bride, the Church to its permanent Home, New
Revelation 21:23-24 “And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine
in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb thereof. And the nations of them
which are saved shall walk in the light of it: and the kings of the earth do bring their glory
and honor into it.”

The inhabitants on the New Earth will have access to the City of New Jerusalem. The
inhabitants will be, I believe, the saved of Israel along with the rest of the redeemed,
except the Church, the Bride, whose final home is New Jerusalem, The City has twelve
gates, one gate for each tribe of the house of Israel.
Everything will happen exactly as God has already planned, no matter what. God’s Word
is fascinating, it boggles my mind. One day by the grace of God, it will all become clear
to us. Praise His holy name!

Verses 25-27. “And the gates of it shall not be shut at all by day: for there shall be no
night there And they shall bring the glory and honor of the nations into it. And there shall
in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whosoever worketh abomination, or
maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb’s book of life.”

I Corinthians 2:9-10 “But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have
entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love Him.
But God hath revealed them unto us by His Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea,
the deep things of God.”

Heaven is sounding sweeter all the time. Have you made preparations to go there? If not
there is no better time than right now to prepare to meet God.
“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever
believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God sent not His Son
into the world to condemn the world; but that the world (mankind) through Him might be
saved. For He that believeth on Him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is
condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of
God.” John 3:16-18.
Years ago, as the story goes, there lived a man in Wales by the name of Billy Bray. He
was an old time shouter! Many of the people who heard him shout used to rebuke him for
praising the Lord so loudly and so often. Whenever they tried to stop him, old Billy
would respond, by saying, “I can’t help it! God has been so good to me! With every step I
take I remember His glory!” He said, “I put my right food down and it says ‘Hallelujah‘,
I put my left food down and it says, ‘Amen.” With that, Billy Bray would march off
shouting “Hallelujah” and “Amen” with every step he took. Billy knew God deserved
praise for the salvation He so freely gives. Praise God for Billy Bray and men like Him. I
praise God for all His precious promises, most of all for the unspeakable gift, the
Wonderful, and only Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who paid our sin debt in full, with His
precious, incorruptible blood.
“Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.”
(Romans:4:25). To God be all the glory and honor now, and forever, Halleluiah!
Halleluiah! Amen! ………Rutherford E. Layne
