1. CREDIT EXAM FOR WORLD LANGUAGES 2011. Students in 7th-12th grade can take this test
to assess their language proficiency in their native language and earn high school credit. The test will
be given in 20 languages. Students must register for the test with their guidance counselors between
Sept. 26 and October 24. No late registrations will be accepted.
The tests will be given at Lake Braddock on Wed. Nov. 9, at Mount Vernon High School on Thurs.
Nov. 10, and at Annandale High School on Monday, Nov. 14. All tests will begin at 3:30. Students can
pick up a brochure with more information and a link to the credit exam web site from the guidance
office and from the ESOL teachers, Ms. Benedict and Ms. Faraj, as well as from the World (foreign)
language teacher, Ms. Aldridge.
2. ADVANCED ACADEMIC PROGRAMS INFORMATION. The Advanced Academic Program(AAP)
testing and identification timeline is now available on the AAP website: www.fcps.edu/DIS/aap. The
deadline for the Spring 2012 screening for full-time AAP (Level IV) referral form and other materials is
February 3rd. All decisions regarding full-time placement in AAP are made by a central selection
committee. Parents or guardians may refer students in grades 3 through 7 by submitting the AAP
Level IV Referral Form. The Parent Information Packet and the forms are available on the AAP
website. Please contact Ms. Hong in Student Services for any questions after you review the Parent
3. OCTOBER PTA MEETING PROGRAM. At the October PTA meeting, October 11, at 9:15 AM,
we will be showing the Students Rights and Responsibilities Parent Information Video. The video can
also be viewed at http://www.fcps.edu/dss/ips/ssaw/SRR/ Additionally, two of our teachers, Mr.
Simoni and Ms. Poppe, will share information about service learning at this meeting. Come join us!

5. REFRESHMENTS NEEDED FOR HEALTH SCREENING. In its first event of the school year, the
Frost Hospitality Committee is providing refreshments for volunteers and staff at the Health Screening,
which will take place on Tuesday, October 18th. If you are interested in providing baked goods, fruit,
juice or iced tea for the Health Screening and/or in joining the Hospitality Committee, please
contact Co-Chair Stacey Brahmey at email@example.com. Thank you!
6. DESTINATION IMAGINATION/ODYSSEY OF THE MIND INFORMATIONAL MEETING
Once again this year, Frost will be supporting teams for Destination Imagination and Odyssey of the
Mind. Come to the Mantua Elementary School cafeteria located at 9107 Horner Court, Fairfax, VA
22031 on Monday, October 24, 2011, at 7pm to learn more about these two extraordinary, creative,
problem-solving programs that invite student teams from all over the world to solve mind-bending
challenges and problems. These are extracurricular activities requiring cooperation between students
and volunteer adults. Students learn to unleash their imaginations and take unique approaches to
problem solving. This informational session is for both students and parents! Questions? Contact

7. FROST VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! Volunteering at Frost is a great way to continue to stay involved
with your child and his/her school. The PTA still needs a number of very important volunteers. Please
email PTA President Teresa LeMair, email@example.com, if you have questions about or are willing
to accept one of the following jobs:
Bingo Co-Chair – WE HAVE ONE, NOW WE JUST NEED ONE MORE!
Solicit prize donors and cash sponsors
Event held on a Friday night in Feb/March
Publicize in Frost, Woodson pyramid, and community publications
Sell tickets by mail and in the cafeteria
Sell pizza, donated baked goods and other items during bingo
Should be co-chaired and/or volunteers who can head up specific areas such as refreshments,
prizes or tickets
Eighth Grade Dance – June
Usually run by 7th grade parent
Coordinate volunteers to help
o Set up parents gym
o Help at dance
Grant Committee Chair – October/November
Accepts Grant applications from Frost teachers and staff
Runs grant committee meeting and presents committee's conclusions at PTA meeting
Sends letters granting/denying each grant
8. REFLECTIONS ART PROGRAM. Frosties! The Reflections Art Contest is around the corner! Is
your creative expression bursting from the seams ? This year’s theme is diversity- so, dancers,
musicians, video directors, photographers, writers and visual artists please check out the Reflections
Contest info in the front office or online at the Virginia PTA site www.vapta.org and look to the left
under PTA programs! There are new forms to fill out so please check that out before submitting works.
There will be a deposit box for your artwork in the front office. Get going -- the deadline is Friday OCT

10. OPERATION MEDICINE CABINET CLEANOUT. Bring unused or expired medications (just pills
or liquids – no pressurized canisters or needles) to your local Fairfax County district police station for
disposal anytime from Monday, October 10 through Friday, October 14, 2011. Clearing out unused
or expired medications prevents accidental poisoning, drug abuse, and environmental pollution.
In a 2009 survey, approximately 1 in 13 Fairfax County high school students responded that they had
abused prescription drugs and/or over-the-counter medications in the previous month. Nationally,
prescription drug abuse is a growing problem with all ages.
Disposal is free, convenient, confidential and safe. Drop off sites are:
