									CEHSP TECH COUNCIL MEETING
November 2, 2009
Present: Holly Parr (CSD), Erin Wunderlich (CSD), Ali Hanson (EDUC), Stephanie Thayer (EDUC), Rachel
DeGrood (HPER), Rachel Krambeer (PSY), Katrice Tubbs (PSY), Jon Phillips (SW), Kent Brorson, Duane
Millslagle, Kathy Heltzer, Paul Deputy, Lynn Hegrenes, Lynn Velander

Guest: Bruce Reeves

1) Bruce Reeves from UMD’s ITSS came to the meeting to talk about Google Applications. He started out by
asking the group what they knew about Google Apps. He went on to say that:

   -   Google Apps will happen for the Duluth campus in Spring 2010
   -   Freshman coming in new Spring 2010 will have gmail
   -   gmail will be optional for the rest

   - can still use Mulberry, Outlook, Thunderbird, etc…however, Mulberry will be going away after this
      year (December 31, 2009).
   - Folders are called “labels” in gmail
         o Folders – emails can only exist in one folder
         o Labels – can apply to many emails
   - your gmail account will continue after graduation, leaving the University, etc…
   - there is approximately 7 gb of storage

UMCal - will be going away next summer – looking at Google Calendar for its replacement

Google Sites – easy way to do a webpage

Google Talk – similar to skype

2) Paul Deputy went over the roles and responsibilities of the CEHSP Technology Council (handout). It was
suggested that the students receive this prior to the first meeting so they know what the committee is about and
what is expected of them.

3) Fall round of Tech Proposals – all but Psychology’s Kindles proposal were approved.
