JOB TITLE: COURSES CO-ORDINATOR (one-year contract)

GLOBE EDUCATION
Education is at the heart of the mission of the Shakespeare Globe Trust.
Globe Education was founded in 1989 to ensure that an established programme of
workshops, courses and events for people of all ages and nationalities was in place
before the Globe Theatre opened in 1997. Globe Education is now one of the largest
Arts education departments in the UK (with over 100,000 people participating in
Globe Education programmes every year) and has established an international
reputation for its work.
GLOBE EDUCATION COURSES
Globe Education is proud of its ever growing student body working at Shakespeare’s
Globe at undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral levels. All students studying on
Globe Education Courses use the Globe Theatre space as a unique resource to
develop core skills and to increase their knowledge of Shakespearean performance,
past and present. From acting, stage management and theatre design training to
liberal arts, cultural & theatre history and performance studies, our courses offer a
wide range of programmes led by a distinguished faculty of academics and theatre
artists.
BRIEF OUTLINE OF THE ROLE
PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
As a member of the Courses Team, the postholder will be responsible for the
administration and successful delivery of all Globe Education courses - ensuring that
each session is planned, staffed and resourced to a consistently high standard.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Planning, delivery and evaluation of courses
S/he will be responsible for booking, preparing and re-setting spaces for lectures,
workshops and scene rehearsals which will often include provision of hospitality,
technical support, props and handouts. S/he will liaise with the Courses Assistant
to ensure that technical and Front of House elements are in place for final
performances on the Globe stage.
S/he will act as Company Manager for selected Globe Education Courses, to
ensure participants are well supported throughout our courses with their
educational requirements and their pastoral care. S/he will also support the Globe
Education Assistant (Courses) as Company Manager on other courses.
S/he will be responsible for participants of Globe Education Courses and act as a
contact for participants - prior to their arrival and whilst they are on site.
S/he will liaise with Globe Education Practitioners, Globe Education Lecturers,
Globe Theatre Practitioners, theatre professionals, visiting speakers and Courses
Faculty in all matters relating to the planning and delivery of a course. S/he will
ensure that they have a clear understanding of (and context for) the learning
outcomes of each session as detailed by the University Courses Manager or the
Conservatory Training Courses Manager.
She will liaise with the Theatre department, Box Office and Front of House staff to
ensure that all procedures for security, health and safety and good housekeeping
are properly carried out in line with working practices for Globe Education and
that any appropriate Shakespeare Globe Trust codes of practices and
procedures are followed.
S/he will ensure the principles of the Globe’s access policy are upheld.
The postholder will support the Courses team in the management of crews of
volunteer stewards; interns working on particular projects and freelance support
staff.
S/he will provide coordination and support for the Sam Wanamaker Festival
under the guidance of the Events Manager, University Courses Manager and
Conservatory Training Courses Manager and alongside the Events Coordinator.
S/he will provide support for key departmental and cross-organisational events.
Finance
The postholder will ensure that invoices, cheque requests, credit card and cash
payments are created and processed for Courses.
The postholder will ensure that expenses claims on behalf of Globe Education
Practitioners, Globe Education Lecturers, Globe Theatre Practitioners, theatre
professionals, visiting speakers and Courses Faculty are processed on a monthly
basis.
The postholder will ensure that monthly practitioner payments are recorded.
The postholder will ensure that income and expenditure is recorded against the
relevant budget codes on the central financial worksheet in order to give status
reports to managers upon request.
S/he will assist the Courses management team with scheduling and budgeting all
courses.
Meetings
S/he will attend weekly meetings with the Conservatory Training Courses
Manager; fortnightly Area meetings (Courses & Research); monthly meetings
with the Focus Group; monthly Globe Education departmental meetings; and
regular meetings for the staff of the Shakespeare Globe Trust.
Person Specification
Essential
1 to 2 years administration experience.
Experience of working with / managing budgets.
A passion for education in the arts.
Customer focussed approach ensuring high standards of service delivery and
promotion of education work.
Strong planning and organisational skills, meticulous attention to detail and the
ability to prioritise a varied workload to achieve deadlines.
Excellent communication (both written and verbal) and interpersonal skills with
the ability to deal with a wide range of people at all levels.
The ability to respond rapidly and effectively to changing situations.
Willingness to work unsocial hours as part of the duty rota.
Strong team player who is both self motivated and pro-active.
Experience of working with the general public.
Demonstrable experience of working with academic and artistic teams.
Discretion and tact.
Interest in theatre and Shakespeare.
A degree-level qualification in Education, the arts or in an arts related subject.
IT literate and competent in the use of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and
Outlook.
Desirable
Experience as a coordinator or administrator within an Arts Education
department.
Valid CRB disclosure

Contract: 1 Year Fixed Term Contract.
Hours: 40 hours per week including lunch breaks. There will be occasional
unsociable hours for which time can be taken off in lieu.
Holiday: The annual holiday leave is 25 days per calendar year plus Bank
Holidays. Globe Education closes between Christmas and New Year
and those days that are not Bank Holidays must be taken as part of
annual leave.
CRB: The post holder will be required to undergo a CRB check at
Enhanced level.
