<Date> <Your Name> <Your address> <State, city, zip> <Phone number> <Your email address> President Barack Hussein Obama The White House 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW Washington, DC 20500 RE: Brazilian Amazon Deforestation Dear President Obama, I am seriously concerned about the deforestation that is occurring in the Brazilian Amazon region of Brazil. Reasons why deforestation is occurring is because of cattle ranching, small and large scale agriculture, and logging (Butler 2009). According to Payne (2008), you support deforesting the area further to promote the use of green biofuels. The Brazilian Amazon has a lot of resources of cellulosic ethanol and resources which are essential in the biofuels movement. Biofuels are not a total answer to the national energy crisis. I am seriously concerned for the people of Brazil and the indigenous rights of all Brazilians. Additionally, this area is a major carbon sink for the world. This means that without the Amazon intact, additional pollution and global warming will occur. Further deforestation will decrease the quality of life on this planet for all. I urge you, and our members in congress, to help the indigenous people of the Amazon that are unable to advocate for the best interests of their region. Thank you for taking time to read my concerns. I await your reply. Sincerely, <Your name> <Your Address> <Your City and state> Butler, Rhett, 2009. Deforestation in the Amazon.
