The Polar Bear This 8-10 foot tall bear, weighing 500- 1,000 pounds, is endangered in the Arctic and Antarctic regions. Polar bears are threatened by: Global warming. Chemical pollutants in the bear’s prey species are eaten by the bears. Oil and gas development. If this animal becomes extinct, it could affect many other animals. This animal preys on seal and walruses, then leaves the remains for other scavengers. This could cause an overgrowth in the seal and walrus population. Also, artic foxes rely specifically on polar bear leftovers. This would cause the foxes to be left without food. This animal could be protected from extinction by becoming aware of global warming and how to prevent it. Also by stopping the development of oil and gas in the Artic region.
