India is a diverse country not only in terms of its geography but also its cultural heritage. India's
culture in its diversity doesn't run short of its geography. In other words, each state or city in the
country sports a culture different from the other. The country attracts millions of tourists to its
shores each year and most of them taking part in Rajasthan tours feel in awe of the blessings of
nature endowed on the country.
With a congenial and highly accessible infrastructure, the country has emerged as a clear favourite
as far as holiday destinations are concerned. Though there are numerous cities in India that give
tourists a wonderful holidaying experience, the state of Rajasthan gets a special mention in the list
of best holiday attractions. Situated in the north-western part of India, Rajasthan is known for its
long standing affair with royalty. The state basically means the 'land of kingdoms'.
It has been the home to many royal families who have made massive contribution to the state's
culture, history as well as politics. The state, which is the largest in terms of area, covers the major
portion of the Thar Desert. Inhabited by people belonging to a myriad of religions and cultures and
speaking their native dialects though the country's national language, namely, Hindi is most
prevalent. English is also one of the spoken languages.
Rajasthan's capital is the city of Jaipur, which is also its biggest city. The city is a popular tourist
attraction as it is the home to the erstwhile royal family of Rajasthan and a number of forts.
Popular among them are the Hawa Mahal and the Jantar Mantar, the latter of which is a World
Heritage Site. The Jal Mahal, or the 'palace on water' is yet another popular tourist attraction at
that the city has to offer. Other popular destinations include the Nahargarh Fort and the Amer Ka
Kila.
Another city of Rajasthan that experiences bumper traffic during the tourist season is Udaipur. The
best time to visit Udaipur is in the winter. The major attractions of the state include the Lake
Palace, The Fateh Sagar and the Pichola Lake, with the latter two being a part of the country's
National Lake Conservation Plan.
Other cities of Rajasthan that serve as popular holiday destinations include Mount Abu which also
sports the famous Dilwara Temples, Jaisalmer, Bikaner and Jodhpur.
Apart from historical monuments, Rajasthan is known for its wildlife sanctuaries. The bird
sanctuary of Kaladeo National Park, near Bharatpur is home to various exotic bird species. The
state is also home to the famous Ranthambore National Park which sports a myriad species of
animals that include tigers, deer and the wild boar. Another wildlife reserve in the state is the
Sariska Tiger Reserve, which is home to many species of tigers, hyena, jungle cats and birds.
Moreover, the reserve is also known for a wide variety of rare trees. Rajasthan is also famous for its
beautiful handicrafts. The state government has extended various measures to make tourists feel
at home whenever they visit Rajasthan.
All in all, there is no dearth of things to see or experience in Rajasthan. In fact, the native people of
the state are known all over for their hospitality.
