Sunday, November 1                                                 Daylight Saving Time Ends
Set clocks back one hour and enjoy that extra hour of sleep!

Monday, November 2-Friday, November 20                                  Thanksgiving Food Drive
Rivers students and their families are asked to contribute the non-perishable items necessary for
a complete Thanksgiving dinner. Advisory groups will be receiving detailed information about
what to bring.

Thursday, November 5                                                             MS Term I Ends
Middle School Term I reports will be available online the week of November 16. To access and
print your student’s reports via the Web site, simply click on the Riversnet button on the Rivers
homepage and log in using your standard username (first initial + last name) and password. (If
you haven’t logged in before, your password will be your zip code.) Once you log in, your
student's reports will appear under the “Performance” heading in the middle column of the page.

Friday, November 6                                        MS Professional Day - No MS classes

Tuesday, November 9                                                         MS Term II Begins

Tuesday, November 10                                                     MS & US Jazz Concert
Everyone is invited to attend the MS and US Jazz Bands Concert on Tuesday, November 10 at
6:00 p.m. in Rivera Recital Hall (in Bradley Hall). The concert will include performances by the
MS Creative Jazz Ensemble, the US Intro to Jazz and Intermediate Jazz Ensembles, the US
Select I and II combos, and the US Big Band. The concert is free.

Wednesday, November 11                    8:00 a.m. Early Opening for Veterans’ Day Assembly
This special assembly is a tradition at Rivers. Students should check-in by 8:00 a.m. and then go
quietly to Benson Gymnasium for the assembly. Formal dress is required - see page 72 of the
Handbook regarding “formal dress.” Please remind your child to dress appropriately for this
event. Boys should wear jackets if they own them. Parents and guests are also welcome to honor
Rivers alumni and parents who have served in the Armed Services. If you are a veteran or are in
the military and would like to be included in the ceremony, please contact Chris Martin at
Thursday, November 12
Friday, November 13
Saturday, November 14                                                             Romeo & Juliet
Rivers students and families are invited to attend the Upper School fall drama production of
Romeo & Juliet. Tickets are $5 and may be purchased at the door on the night of each
performance. Show time is at 7:00 p.m. in the Corkin Auditorium. IMPORTANT: Pick-up after
the play is 9:00 p.m. Please be prompt in picking up your child. On Thursday, November 12
only, dinner will be served in Strauss Dining Room at 5:00 p.m. Everyone attending the play on
Thursday is invited to this dinner. Please let Nina Righter in the Middle School office know if
your child will be staying.

Friday, November 13                                                              Fall Sports End
Fall sports officially end for the Middle School on November 13. There is no Middle School
sports program for the week of November 16-20. Students are dismissed at the end of the
academic day. We ask that parents arrange for an earlier pick-up of 2:45 p.m. during this
week with the exception of Friday, November 20 – see below – when there is a 4:30 p.m. pick-
up time for those students attending the movie and a 8:00 p.m. pick up time for seventh-grade
students participating in the evening activities.

Monday, November 16                                              MS & US Orchestra Concert
Everyone is invited to attend the MS and US Chamber Orchestra concert on Monday,
November 16 at 6:00 p.m. in Rivera Recital Hall (in Bradley Hall). The concert will include
chamber ensembles from both the US and MS Chamber Orchestra class, as well as performances
by both the MS and US orchestras. The concert is free.

Tuesday, November 17                          Grade 7 Nutrition & Body Image Parent Evening
During the week of November 16, the seventh grade will participate in a Nutrition & Body
Image Program conducted by Eleni Tsarhopoulos. Topics addressed in the program will include:
eating for success in the classroom and beyond; making nutritious choices; sports drinks and
caffeine; eating disorders; and body image and self-esteem. Parents are invited to join Eleni in
Hutton Hall at 7:00 p.m., to learn about the program and ways to support your children in
making healthy choices.

Friday, November 20                                                        MS Movie Afternoon
Middle School students are invited to remain after school for snacks and a movie. Pick-up is
promptly at 4:30 p.m., by the flagpole. Students who plan to attend need to let the Middle School
office know.

Friday, November 20                                               Grade 7 Boys/Girls Night
Immediately following the MS movie afternoon, seventh-grade boys and girls will get together
for an evening of fun and pizza. Pick-up is 8:00 p.m.
Saturday, November 21                                                       International Night
Rivers families are invited to sample food from around the world and enjoy outstanding
entertainment at this event sponsored by The Forum, our student diversity group, 6:00-8:30 p.m.,
in the Berwind Building.

Monday, November 23                                                  MS Winter Sports Begin
You may contact the Athletic Department directly if you have questions about practice/game

Wednesday, November 25                                                      Thanksgiving Break
Please do not depart early for, or return late from, Thanksgiving Break. Dismissal is at 3:45 p.m.
on Tuesday, November 24 and classes resume at 8:00 a.m. on Monday, November 30.

Monday, November 30                                                Winter Coat Drive Begins
The Middle School Service Council will collect new and gently used winter coats, sweaters, hats,
scarves and gloves for donation to local service agencies.
