Ginger English Memorial Fund Makes Grant to Destinations with Direction Program at Phoenixville
                                                                 Community Education Foundation

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: West Chester, PA, January 16 2009

On Thursday, January 22, 2009 the Ginger English Memorial Fund will present a $1,500 grant
check to Phoenixville Community Education Foundation’s Destinations with Direction program.
Ginger’s family, the staff of Phoenixville High School, and representatives from the Chester County
Community Foundation will be present for the 1:30 p.m. check ceremony.

Destinations with Direction, launched in October 2007, is a program designed to increase awareness
and motivate high potential, economically disadvantaged students to pursue opportunities in higher
education. The students selected for DWD receive additional supports including extended school day
counseling, college mentors, tutors, and college tours. Additionally, high school personnel establish
relationships with the appropriate college level officials to help match student needs with resources and
services available to assist them on this journey. By giving the students these additional supports, they
will become empowered to pursue a college education. Such a program has the potential to change
lives and create the leaders of tomorrow.

“I’m grateful for such a generous grant,” says Craig Parkinson of Destinations with Direction.
“Students are better able to succeed when they know people believe in them. This gift which aids our
organization will help these students to achieve their goals.”

When Ginger English (born Theresa J. Shepsko) passed away in 2006, the English family established
The Ginger English Memorial Fund to honor her life. With the help of the Chester County Community
Foundation, the fund was established to provide financial support in the form of grants, to local
charitable organizations.

“The Ginger English Memorial Fund is a way for our family to keep Ginger’s legacy of caring alive.
Our family is very proud of the accomplishments we have made in this short time. This in large part
due to the excitement, dedication and vigor that all involved with the GEM Fund show on a daily
basis,” says Ginger’s husband, Michael T. English.
“Supporting Destinations with Direction brings us great pride. The mission of this fund is to help the
community where Ginger lived and served for her entire life. Destinations is a program helping the
youth of today grow into vital members of the community in the future. We hope that others in the
community who cared about my mom, as well as those who care about our community, will make
donations to help the legacy fund grow. We welcome donations and fundraising help, so that we can
make larger grants to make a more sizeable impact.”

The grant to the Destinations program is made possible by funds raised from the sale of a cookbook
and the Ginger English Memorial Fund Golf Classic. Held on August 15th, the event was attended by
over 150 golfers from Maryland to New York. Event sponsors included RSZ Orthopedics, The Gateway
Pharmacy and the members of Phoenixville Country Club. Golfers are invited to participate in the 3rd
Annual Ginger English Memorial Golf Classic set for August 2009.
