                        Dentistry

Dentists give medical advice and administer care to help prevent
future mouth problems. Dentists diagnose and treat problems
with teeth and tissue in the mouth. High school and college
students who want to look into dentistry should take courses in
biology, chemistry, physics, health, and mathematics. Dentists
usually complete at least eight years of education beyond high
school. When selecting students schools consider scores earned
on the (DAT). All dental schools require applicants to take the
Dental Admissions Test (DAT). Most dentists are solo
practitioners. Self-employed dentists must provide their own
health insurances, life insurances, retirement plans, and other
benefits. Self-employed dentists in private practice tend to earn
more than salaried dentists do. Earnings vary according to the
number of years in location, hours worked, practice, and
specialty. Dentists who are salaried often receive benefits paid
by there employer. Median annul earning of salaried dentists
were $136,960 in May 2006. The demand of dental services is
expected to continue to increase. Most job openings will result
from the need of having to replace the large number of dentists
expected to retire.
