SERVICES AVAILABLE TO MEMBERS
As a member of YOSC you have access to a number of services, information and equipment. You may
know some of these. For reference they are listed here in the order they appear on the YOSC web site,
with the title of the post holder/organiser. To contact any particular organiser, use the email addresses
shown in the annual Members Handbook that is distributed to Members each year.
Alternatively see the “Members Pages” on this website for their up to date contact details, telephone

The website is often updated as information becomes available from various club & other sources, so if
you want to know anything about YOSC or other sailing matters look at the Website first!
A visit to the YOSC web site takes you to the Home Page showing buttons, on the left, to access all the
other pages. All of the YOSC facilities are described on the YOSC web site, here’s a brief summary of

Membership arrangements, fees and a link to download an Application form. Ian keeps the
membership database and issues the Members Directory, Portsmouth tide tables and car stickers.

See the 2008 Sailing Programme; it lists all planned sailing events, dates, etc. Contact Tony
Nemeth our Sailing Secretary who welcomes your ideas for future events.
Under the sailing button there are also links that access the tide tables for Portsmouth and
Cherbourg. Cherbourg tides are required by the Reeve Fowkes tidal atlas; down load the
information through this link.
See the 2008 Social Programme; it lists all planned social events, dates, etc. There are Annual
events – The programme normally includes a Spring Dance, Summer Barbecue, Beer & Skittles,
Quiz night and a Christmas Party.
Monthly Guest speakers - Normally give a presentation on the first Monday of the month at the
Yateley Centre at 2000 hours in one of the classrooms.
Weekly Informal social gatherings – These take place in the Sports & Social bar, Yateleys, from
about 2045 hours onwards. These gatherings take place on Mondays that are free of other YOSC
events. The Librarian brings a mobile library with a selection of books and videos.

Skippers, see the crewing list here if you want to offer a member a crew place on your boat. If you
want a crew place, add your name to the Crew List. Contact Tony Nemeth, Sailing Secretary
Gives links to UK, USA and French sailing topics and links to Tides, Weather and Navigation
information. There are links to Newsgroups, other Clubs, Yateley & Hampshire web sites and
other Indispensable and Useful Websites.
The Editor publishes a monthly News Letter or a Magazine. They’re posted to all members unless
collected first. The Editor welcomes articles and photographs suitable for publication; he gives the
following tips to all writers. i) Please can you type the article in Word, ii) provide any pictures,
drawings and charts as jpg, bmp, tiff or psd files, separated from the text and not in the body of the
text. In the body of the text indicate where the inserts should go. iii) The maximum size file that
the editor can receive electronically is 20MB. Contact the Alan Bew the Editor. The YOSC web
site gives you access to 12 months worth of Newsletters and Offshore Magazines.
“YOSC Picture Gallery”
New for 2008. You may know that YOSC have re-hosted our web site with Heart Internet.
Changing to this new host allows you to paste interesting photographs which may be viewed &
copied by any other member through the YOSC site. The Yahoo site “YOSC Photographs” that
was set up in 2007 has been replace with this new Picture Gallery facility. The Yahoo! “YOSC
Photographs” facility will be deleted after a few months.
To access the new site click Picture Gallery and use the same pass system that gives you access to
the members pages and follow the instructions.
“Sales & Wants”
Send your sales & wants to the Webmaster at firstname.lastname@example.org He will place your copy on
the web site.
These pages contain items of general interest such as: Col Regs, CEVNI Rules, Racing Rules,
Flags, Navigation, Maintenance etc. plus a few YOSC Items and some Webmaster whimsies.

Click on the “Library” button to see an index for every item YOSC owns. To borrow anything, see
the index, find what you want, contact the Librarian by email or at the Yateley Centre most
Monday evenings. The index covers the following.
Books, Videos and CDs - The Library has over 90 titles to lend.
Equipment - To assist with boat maintenance, borrow a Sump Oil Extractor; Polisher, heavy or
light duty; VSWR Meter; Mini Engraver; Hi Pressure Washer with straight & angled lance;
synthetic Rope Cutter/Sealer; or Anti foul scraper.
Club Burgees - Buy a club Burgee with YOSC logo, small (£3) or large sizes (£11.5) available.
Clothing - Once a year, around September/October, clothing orders are taken for Sweatshirts, T
shirts, Fleeces, caps etc, embroidered with the YOSC logo, also with a boat name if required.
The Librarian welcomes gifts of sailing magazines, books, videos and ideas for new titles or
equipment to stock. Contact the Librarian.
This section provides over 400 names and telephone numbers of sailing related Organizations
including Agencies, Marinas, Boatyards, Sailmakers, Service providers, Transport, Yacht Clubs,
Suppliers, Chandlers, Contractors and etc. Many of these have been used satisfactorily by club
members and will be of general interest to you - please give the Webmaster your suggestions for
