President Myra Stegall called the meeting to order and thanked the more than 20
members who attended the Orientation meeting February 8. She then congratulated
Meredith and Will Vaughn on the birth of baby Harris on December 22, 2010 and Ann
Cardwell on the birth of new grandchildren, twin baby girls. Myra then asked for a

Myra called on Helen Stanley to show an example of next month’s artistic assignment,
“Using Wind Energy”, a free style arrangement consisting of green plant material only.
Helen reminded the members of the information on arrangements on the Garden Club of
Virginia website. The March Horticulture will be a flowering spring bulb.

Myra welcomed back Geri Ridenour to active status. Geri will be part of the Twigs
Team, and serve on Civic Beautification and Ways and Means Committees.

Congratulations were given to Barbara Holland who was featured as the lead story in the
North American Lily Society Quarterly Bulletin, due to her discovery of the very rare
Gray’s Lily. Her story will be featured in the June Journal of the Garden Club of
Virginia.

Myra reminded the membership of a state award, the Horticulture Award of Merit,
previously won by Garden Study Club members, Barbara Holland, Katherine Turner,
Susan Critz, and Nancy Philpott. Nominations for this award are due before March 1st.
Anyone who would like to be considered for this award should see Horticulture
Chairman, Susan Pilson. The award will be presented at the Annual Meeting in May.

Myra reminded the membership to update the Green Sheets for the Kitty Sparrow
Activity Trophy. The sheets should be turned into Eliza Severt in March since there will
not be a meeting in April.

January joint meeting and delivered by the Teams and Exhibits Committee to area

amendment, Gail Mitchell, 2nd Vice-President and Chairman of the Constitution and By-
Laws Committee, presented a recommendation from the Long Range Planning
Committee, that “Active membership shall not exceed 60 members.” This would replace
Article IV, Section 1 which states “Active membership shall not exceed 65.” This
