Electronics - Steady Hand Game
All materials are made up of countless numbers of atoms. Each atom is made up from smaller
particles. One of these is called an electron, and when large numbers of electrons are made to
move through certain materials (like metals) we have an electric current.
Electronics is the management and controlling of these electrons in a circuit, which consists of
different parts or components connected together. The components we are going to use are;
wires, resistors, LEDs, battery clips and capacitors.
A Game of Skill
Steady hand games are a popular
challenge at fairgrounds and money
making events such as school fairs. They
are a game of skill in which you have to
pass a small loop along a length of
twisted wire without touching the two
together. If the two do touch then a
light flashes on.
Problem - Sometimes the two wires
make only a very brief contact and the
LED does not show this clearly.
Another way of representing the circuit is shown below, using the correct symbols for the
various components. On the back of this sheet, sketch out using pictures or symbols how you
would solder the components onto a piece of stripboard to make the circuit work.
