This list was compiled with feedback from Pearsontown families. The purpose is to help
parents learn about the many opportunities for their children during our quarterly breaks.
Please note that the Pearsontown PTA is not endorsing these camps. Parents should
explore each option carefully.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Not all of these camps run during every week of every
intersession, so parents should check the details before making arrangements.

                                         Camps in DURHAM

Schoolhouse of Wonder
Outdoor camps are offered at West Point on the Eno City Park for ages 5-11. All Schoolhouse camps
include experiences in Earth awareness, camp skills, river wading, storytelling, campfires, and games.
Drop-off from 8:15-9AM and pick-up from 5:00-5:15PM. There is an early pick-up option at 3:00-3:15. For

The NC Museum of Life and Science
Located on Murray Avenue in Durham, NCMLS often will schedule one track-out camp during each
intersession. These hands-on science camps run from 9am to 3pm with extended hours for an additional

Durham County Schools – Young Explorers
Sponsored by Durham County Schools Community Education Dept., this camp is held at Pearsontown
from 7 AM to 6 PM. Activities include games, crafts, sports, field trips, computers and more. Contact 560-

Downtown YMCA
YMCA intersession camps are open from 7:30am to 6:00pm at the Downtown YMCA. Weekly activities
include swimming, field trips (on select days), arts and crafts, sport clinics, programmed indoor/outdoor

Success Martial Art
Their program for ages 4-16 is located in the Woodcroft shopping center at 4711 Hope Valley Rd. It runs
7:30 AM-6:00 PM and includes movies, a field trip, outside play, arts & crafts, and daily martial arts

RDU Tennis at Five Oaks Club
Located at 5109 Pine Cone Drive (convenient to I-40 near the Orange/Durham county line), this camp is
for ages 5-14 from 8:30 AM-5:15 PM and covers tennis instruction, drills, games, a movie, arts and crafts,
basketball and soccer (optional). Campers need to bring a tennis racquet, water bottle, sunscreen, hat,

Piedmont Wildlife Center
Located at 364 Leigh Farm Road near I-40 and NC-54 on the Orange/Durham County line, offers camps
for ages 5-14 from 9:00-3:00 (Extended care for an additional fee). Kids will have plenty of opportunity to
learn and play outside as they discover the flora and fauna native to NC. 489-0900.

Durham Arts Council
Located at 220 Morris Street, DAC has camps for ages 5-12. Campers get to experiment a wide variety of
artists and media and occasional field trips. Camps run either from 9:00-2:00 and/or from 2:00-5:30. Drop
off begins at 8:00. You can also sign up for just one day. Call 560-ARTS. and look

Early Explorers Playschool
This program at 5117 Highgate Drive near Southpoint mall is for children grades K-5, offering weekly field
trips and hands-on explorations. Hours of operation are 7am – 6pm.,

Bull City Gymnastics
Located at 4502 Bennett Memorial Road, this gymnastics camp has full-day (9-4) and half-day (9-12 or 1-

City of Durham Parks and Recreation Department
Camps include sports, games, swimming, dance, arts and crafts, and more for ages 5-12. Camp hours
are 7:30-3:00 with aftercare available for an additional fee. Camps locations vary throughout Durham

New Life Christian Academy Track-out Enrichment Camps

Children’s Garden Summer Camp
Offers a camp with a hands-on vegetable garden, fun field trips, and age appropriate summer
enrichment activities. We also offer transportation, bi-lingual staff, low student/ staff ratios,

Spences’ Farm
Located at 6407 Mill House Road, Spence’s is a model of an old family farm. Activities include horseback
riding, collecting eggs from the chickens, collecting and releasing frogs, "mountain" climbing, gardening,

Hoop City U
Located in The Commerce Center, at 4300 Emperor Boulevard, Suite 250, kids have the opportunity to
play games in a variety of sport offerings: basketball, volleyball, indoor tennis and soccer, shuffleboard,

ping pong and dodge ball. Participants will stay active utilizing TK's Jungle, the adjoining children's
inflatable amusement location. Track Out camps operate Monday - Friday, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm. Early drop

                                           Camps in CARY

The Clubhouse at Bright Horizons
This program is located in Cary at the intersection of Davis Drive and High House Road and runs
7:00AM–6:00PM for ages 5-14. Activities include Art Studio, IT Suite, Game Room, theater & music,

Impact Athletics and Fitness Center
This camp offers children the chance to try a number of different sports and physical activities along with

Located near Brier Creek, Pump-It-Up occasionally offers 3-day Jump-and-Art camps for ages 4-10, often

Write More Writing Camps
These camps have been developed for students in grades 2 through 8. They are designed to motivate
both reluctant and enthusiastic writers. Each week-long, half-day camp has age-appropriate themes and

Cool Camps for Kids at the Raleigh IcePlex
Cool Ventures for Kids offers a program for ages 5-12 that promotes physical fitness and creativity
through sports, activities, and crafts. Activities include Ice skating, Hockey, Arts & Crafts, Movies, Board

Dead Broke Farm Horse Camp

Mathnasium and Bricks 4 Kids
Mathnasium (a math/science camp) and Bricks 4 Kids (the Lego people) are teaming up to offer a full-day
camp with a Lego program in the morning and math program in the afternoon. Campers will spend their
morning building a variety of projects with Lego bricks and after lunch will work with the tutors at
Mathnasium playing fun math games and sharpening their skills. Half-day option is available. Call 919-
