Dear Members,
This newsletter is to inform you of several recent and
upcoming events surrounding the patient organization.
Please read through this carefully as there should be
some items of importance to everyone. Thank you.

UPCOMING EVENTS:

Fasting Weekend:
A medically supervised weekend fasting session with raw
organic juicing, nature observation, music, meditation,
drawing, enlivened study, storytelling and other
alternative forms of nourishment. Even if you are not
planning to attend, take a look at the attached article
entitled'Why Fast?' (pages 3-4 of the attachment).
Begins June 25 at 7pm and concludes June 27 at 6pm.
Participants may come and go at their leisure. Cost is
$100, overnight option is available. To sign up call 734-
663-4365 or visit www.SteinerHealth.org for more
detailed program info.
Please let me know as soon as possible if you are
interested or planning to attend. Or maybe someone you
know would like to come? Dr. Molly and I will be fasting
as well.

Healthy Goals for Girls Camp:
July 12-16th, 9am-4:30 pm., for girls 10-14 years old.
The Healthy Goals for Girls day camp focuses on
nutritional education and maintaining a healthy lifestyle,
giving young girls the knowledge and confidence to make
healthy and informed choices that will allow them to be in
control of their health. Educating children about healthy
eating and exercise is critical to reversing the growing
trend towards weight-related, chronic illnesses. Campers
will learn life skills such as shopping, reading labels and
learning basic cooking skills, in order to prepare them for
a healthy lifestyle. The program aims to look at the
problem of weight concerns holistically and create a safe
environment where participants can share their
struggles, hopes and goals, while building community
and self-esteem through theater, art, crafts and music.
In order to achieve long lasting results and foster a
stronger community, the girls will continue to meet once
a month after the camp is over. The purpose of these
meetings is to continue to support each other and the
lifestyle changes achieved during the camp.
The camp fee is $180. Scholarships are available for
those in need.

Please help us get the word out and pass this information
on to anyone who may benefit from or have interest in
this program.
We are also putting together a kitchen kit for each girl
and would greatly appreciate any unwanted kitchen
items such as aprons, measuring cups and spoons,
stainless steel pots, pans, cooking utensils etc.
Please call us if you would like to sponsor a
girl or volunteer to help during or before camp week:
734-663-4365.

Outreach Luncheon:
This year’s outreach luncheon will be held on October
30th 12:30-2:30pm. This is our opportunity to educate
the community about Anthroposophical Medicine and the
Health Center. The event is by invitation only. We will
need a few additional table hosts who are able to gather
some high profile folks in the community and encourage
them to come. Also, please call or email names and
contacts of people you think should be invited (these
should be people who do not already know about our
work). Last year some of our attendees included State
Representative Rebekah Warren, Ann Arbor City
councilmember Carsten Hohnke, several Medical Doctors
and chiropractors in the area and some professors from
UofM.

Volunteer Opportunities:
Girls Camp: July 12-16. Help the week before or
volunteer during camp week.
Outreach Luncheon: August 28th: We need several
people to host tables for our guests (if you don’t feel
comfortable doing this alone, we can put 2 hosts at a
larger table). We will also need help with setup and tear
down of the outreach luncheon event and in the kitchen
before and during the luncheon.
Retreat Volunteering: Our next Retreat is September
13-25. Volunteers can help get the house ready the week
or weekend before, help in the kitchen during retreat
dates, or help with laundry and clean up the Sunday or
week after the retreat.
House Repair: Some bathrooms at the Health Center
are in need of touch up, including caulking and painting.
One drawer needs fixing. Lawn furniture needs to be
sprayed and several other items could use some extra
attention. We need help organizing an exterior door
replacement from someone with experience in that area.
Carpet Donation: The carpet on the third floor will be
replaced this summer and we can use volunteers to help
get the old carpet out and put the new one in. We had
carpet squares donated, have finished the second floor
and are now ready to do the next phase.
Lawn mowing: We have a self propelling lawn mower
here, takes about 45 minutes.
All volunteers: Please contact me in advance by
phone or email. After you have completed any
volunteer hours, be sure to either enter it on your
card at the Health Center, or send me an email with
your exact hours and what you worked on.

Website www.steinerhealth.org:
Web designer and animator Craig Albert has been
working with me to create a new website. We are hoping
to have it online by next Wednesday, June 23nd. There
will be more changes to come after launch, with a page
dedicated to CSAM and another to the patient
organization. We have many ideas for it, and as always
welcome any feedback or additional brainstorming.

NEW STAFF:

Welcome Charles Nalbandian, our new bookkeeper.
Xiaojing has been in the process of selling her house and
moving to Schenectady, NY. We will all miss her quiet,
gentle presence and her impeccable attention to the
books! Charles is from the area, he enjoys singing and is
active in a Barber Shop Quartet which we are looking
forward to hearing sometime.

Tatjana Hardy is a certified medical assistant from
Germany, and a long time friend of the McMullen family.
She will be joining us for the summer as an intern and
will spend her mornings in the office and afternoons at
the Health Center. We have asked her to do EKGs on any
members who haven’t had one in the office. Anyone over
40 should have a baseline EKG in their chart.

RECENT EVENTS:

Facebook: We now have a facebook page for the Rudolf
Steiner Health Center. Click the ‘like’ button to get
occasional event updates and grow our circle.

Chicago Health Freedom Expo: Dr. Molly, Dr. Quentin,
Brittany and I went to exhibit at the expo June 3-6. Dr.
Quentin also gave a very nice lecture on European
Integrative medicine. Thank you all for being patient
while we were out of town.

New Hauschka Makeup: We now have the new
summer line of Dr. Hauschka makeup. The handy palette
contains two lipsticks, 3 eyeshadows, 1 eyeliner and a big
mirror for $49.95 (PO price is $39.96) This
hypoallergenic makeup is derived from plant and mineral
based ingredients and is free of synthetic ingredients,
perfumes, parabens, petroleum, or dyes. You may have
seen the article in Natural Awakenings about mineral
make-ups and the recommendation to use compacted
powders and not loose ones. Feel free to try the testers
in the office and the Health Center. As a Patient
Organization member, you receive 20% off (as with all
store items at CSAM J).

May Retreat: I am proud to report that our May retreat
was filled to the max. We even had to move our infusion
room to make space for another participant. Thank you
to everyone who came to have an infusion for making the
switch! If you have anyone you would like to refer to our
September retreat, I suggest they contact us at least 2-4
weeks ahead of time. We take extra care to
accommodate member referrals as soon as possible.

Brochures: Graphic designer Diana Laird (Dr. Molly’s
brother’s wife) and I put together a new retreat
brochure, and received them just before the Chicago
expo. Take a look at your next visit to the office or health
center. If you have someone in mind that may be
interested in the retreat, I am happy to send one to
them. It will soon be available interactively on our
website as well.

Gardening Day: Master gardener Lin Shaye stayed on
Memorial Day after the Retreat to get some things done
in the garden. We had 6 Patient Organization members
join us for a lovely morning in the garden. Lots of new
perennials from Lin’s garden were planted, asparagus
patch weeded, area by the sign in front was weeded and
trimmed and just general clean up. The house looks
great! Pictures will be on facebook shortly.

Rudolf Steiner Health Center has a new coat of
paint: If you’ve driven by lately, I’m sure you have
noticed our new look. We kept the original colors, and
took out two trees at the front of the house that were
causing trouble with the foundation.

That’s all for now. As always, thank you for being our
best advocates!
Keep your eye out for our next series of art classes at the
Health Center. Check the website regularly for ongoing
events and spread the word!
