District Professional Development Plan (if each building has specific plan or there are
multiple buildings, please summarize the general district PD direction/plan and move to

staff in learning the overview of the Iowa Core and introduce the essential skills and
concepts of the Iowa Core.

Is Grant Wood a Professional Development Provider? x Yes No

What are the current challenges the district faces as it strives to meet its goals?

The Solon Community School District has experienced considerable success with student
achievement. Most students are achieving higher than the average student compared to all students
within Grant Wood AEA. The current level of achievement reduces the sense of urgency to change the
current system.

The high level of overall success has limited the district’s desire to further explore different
instructional strategies, assessments and services to serve some students.

The District Leadership team is in transition. The current superintendent and curriculum
director are serving as one year interims. The district anticipates selecting a new superintendent in late
winter or early spring 2010.
