Instructions for Completing the Art Log

Every piece of art in your manuscript—tables, figures, maps, illustrations—must be listed on the Art Log. The Art Log must be submitted to the Press in electronic form. Please email us if you have not yet received an electronic version of this form. On the Art Log, list each item in the order it appears in the manuscript. Supply the figure number and manuscript page on which the callout appears, as well as a description of the art, the type of art, the format, and source. If permission is required, include a credit line. (Often the copyright holder will specify the text and placement for the credit line.) Please note, the log does not replace the list of tables or illustrations in the front matter or the caption list. Each of these items must be submitted separately. The Art Log must include all pieces of art, both those that require permission and those that do not. You will need to obtain permission for any figure taken in its entirety from a previously published source. If you have taken only the data no permission is necessary, but please label the figure as such (i.e., Source: Data from M. H. Night, Guide to Superman . . .). You do not need to request permission for figures you create. See the Author Guidelines for more instructions.

If you have questions about the Art Log, please contact your assistant editor.
