d. Graduation Invitation Orders – Typically in October. The senior class sponsors
are the points of contact. A representative from Jostens will come to the school to
provide ordering information for students to bring home. Typically a week after
the initial visit the representative will return to take up the orders.
e. MCHS Graduation – Tuesday, May 24, 2011, 5:30 p.m. at the VBC Arena
2. Scholarship Searches
a. The most money comes from the colleges themselves. Apply when applying for
admissions. Ask about scholarships in the admissions office, the financial aid
office, and the department.
b. Throughout the year I get information about a variety of smaller scholarships. I
have created a master list and posted it on the school website
(https://www.madison.k12.al.us/Schools/mchs/Pages/Guidance.aspx) This master
list describes the scholarship and gives the typical application dates. When the
scholarship information arrives I will post that in a Guidance Office newsletter.
c. Also on the Guidance webpage are links to sites that will help with college search,
scholarships and financial aid, career information, and testing/study skills.
3. Staying connected: If you have not already done so, consider signing up for the
Listserve to get current information emailed to you. Go to the Madison County Schools
BOE webpage (www.madison.k12.al.us) and click on the link “Join School Listserve”
Feel free to contact me at any time if you have questions or need assistance. You may
reach me by calling the school – 256-776-6247, or by email at
cgulbro@madison.k12.al.us.
4. Student Athletes: If you have a senior athlete who is considering playing in college, the
athlete will need to register with the NCAA clearinghouse: www.eligibilitycenter.org.
Student athletes must meet the eligibility requirements which include a sufficient number
of core classes as well as meet GPA and test score requirements. (These are on a sliding
scale – information is available on the NCAA website.)
5. Recommendations: Students who are requesting recommendation letters from their
counselors will need to complete a packet that will soon be found on the MCHS
Guidance website (https://www.madison.k12.al.us/Schools/mchs/Pages/Guidance.aspx) .
There are sections for the students’ parents, teachers, and friends to complete as well.
The completed packet is to be returned to the counselor at least two weeks before the date
the letter is needed.
