 Enrichment Program: Classes are five (5) days per week, Monday through Friday.
 (There will be no class on Wednesday, July 4th, in observation of Independence Day)

♦ Enrollment is on a first come, first served basis. Unless otherwise noted, grade level refers
to the grade going into next year. Class size will be limited by the size of the facility. For
bookkeeping purposes, it is requested that separate checks be made for each child
registering. Courses may be cancelled for lack of enrollment or staff availability. A refund of
tuition will then be made. Where possible, students will be grouped according to age
and experience.

♦ Tuition Refund: Withdrawal may be made before the first day of class. Tuition will be
refunded, minus a $5.00 registration FEE. No tuition fee will be refunded for any reason
after the first class.

♦ Transportation: Parents must provide transportation to and from summer school.
Students should arrive and depart from classes with a minimum of waiting.

♦ Class times indicated cannot be firmly established until enrollment is completed.
Classes are 55 minutes in duration unless otherwise indicated. Classes will start at 9:00,
10:00, or 11:00 a.m.

♦ Please register as early as possible. A receipt with the class time and assignment will
be sent to you approximately one week before the summer session starts.

♦ Medical Emergencies: A school nurse will be on staff during the summer sessions. A
medical authorization form must be submitted for each student when the application
is submitted, there will be no exceptions.

      STORY SNACKS WITH DR. SEUSS (Grades 1-2)
     One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish…Mix ½ cup Dr. Seuss books with hands-on
     educational activities and ½ cup of culinary fun and you have the recipe for yummy “Story
     Snacks.” Using only his books, children will reinforce the concepts of reading, language arts
     and math while creating delicious treats. At the end of the session, children will take home a
     Dr. Seuss Cookbook and all of their projects. THIS COURSE IS NOT RECOMMENDED FOR

     This course will help to provide early readers with a strong literacy foundation. Using phonics,

     ♦ READY, SET, READ! (Grades 1-3)
     This course will take students on an exciting literary adventure as they explore fiction and
     nonfiction books. Fun and interactive lessons will enhance students’ comprehension, fluency,
     vocabulary and phonics skills. (This is not a remedial course.) Please select (9, 10, or

     ♦ READING DETECTIVES (Grades 2-3 and Grades 4-5)
     This class is aimed at enhancing and improving decoding and spelling skills. Using a variety
     of approaches, students can enrich their reading skills and have fun at the same time.
     Different strategies including games, and hands-on activities will be utilized.

     SCHOOL READINESS COURSES
     ♦ LET’S GET READY FOR SCHOOL (Kindergarten)
     Is your child ready for school? This class provides an excellent kindergarten experience for
     your child entering school in September. Through games, crafts, and physical activities, your
     child will develop social skills, which are necessary to succeed. Students will enhance their
     listening skills through age appropriate stories, songs and poems. Please select (9,10, or

     MATH COURSES
     ♦ MATH GAMES TO BUILD MATH SKILLS (Grades K-3)
     “Let’s learn and review important Math skills through fun games.” Playing addition,
     subtraction, division and multiplication bingo. We have shopping games that we can practice

Believe it or not, math can be fun! Review and learn new strategies to enhance math skills
through a variety of hands on activities, techniques, and games. By using different
approaches, students can enrich their math skills. Topics that will be covered include: math
facts, problem solving, graphing and geometry, among other math related areas.

WRITING COURSES

 JOURNALISM (Grades 3-5 and Grades 6-8)
Students will learn aspects of journalism that will enable them to design their own
newspaper. Students will work on articles, artwork, photography, and layout for their
publication. In this course, students will build upon their writing, listening, and speaking skills,
as well as their ability to work with their fellow student journalists. This hands-on class is filled
with fun-filled activities for youngsters to enjoy. The best part about the course is the
newspaper, which will reflect each student’s creative talents.

♦ CREATIVE WRITING (Grades 4-8)
This summer is a great time for students in grades 4-8 to enhance their writing skills while
being creative and having fun! Depending on the interest and needs of the class, various
genres of writing will be explored. Students will create many original pieces of writing during
this class including descriptive, persuasive, different forms of poetry, newspaper articles, and
writing from photography. This is a great way to keep writing skills sharp for the year ahead.

SCIENCE COURSES
♦ YOUNG SCIENCE EXPLORERS (Grades K-2)
This class will provide students with an opportunity to engage in a variety of age appropriate

science units that include space, life cycles, plants, the ocean, animals from different regions
and the human body. In addition, to playing games, they will receive reinforcement and
reading support with the use of pictures books. The students will create crafts for each unit of

♦ LET’S EXPERIMENT (Grades 3-5)
Test the germination of seeds, build a wave machine, construct a model of a lung...these are
just some of the learning-rich, hands-on activities that teach students the concepts of
weather, motion, the five senses and more. Simple household items like sandwich bags,

     ♦ MICROSCOPE FUN (Grades 4-8)
     Students will learn how to use microscopes and discover a variety of living micro-organisms,
     some that can be found in a single drop of water. A digital microscope will be used to capture
     video of the student’s discoveries, which will be posted on the class wiki page.

               environmental and earth science via demonstrations, hands-on activities, and
     experiments. They will learn about lab safety and proper equipment handling. They will learn
     about the formation of the earth, plate tectonics, and environmental issues. They will create
     models of water filtration systems, sea floor spreading, earthquakes, liquefaction, and layers
     of soil. These and other topics will be discussed and researched. The students will also
     participate in virtual labs. The main focus of this course will be hands on activities with follow-

     Students will be led into the world of technology. Students will be taught keyboarding, basic

                   ART IN ACTION 1 (Grades 1-6)
                  This hands-on course will consist of fun projects to teach children various art
                  techniques including collage and pointillism. Children will explore their creativity
                  as they make various projects including fingerprint pictures and bubble painting.
                  Students will have the opportunity to work with different mediums and materials

      ART IN ACTION 2 (Grades 3-6)
     Develop your inner artist through fun, hands-on projects! Designed as a follow-up to Art in
     Action 1, this course will build upon previously learned basic techniques. Students will
     discover how math and art are related through perspective drawings and tessellations.
     Children will explore color, texture, and creativity through scribble drawings and various

      ARTS AND CRAFTS (Grades 2-8)
     This course is geared for students who enjoy arts and crafts. The students in this class will

     Students in this class will bring in copies of their favorite photos and create beautiful

               CARTOONING (Grades 4-8)
              Ever wish there was a class where doodling was allowed and even encouraged? If so, then
              welcome to the exciting world of cartooning. Learn how to draw a cartoon, create a comic
              strip and develop stories based on your interests and imagination. Go through the process of
              devising your very own characters and stories. You will have the opportunity to learn various
              techniques and styles that will enhance your artistic and creative abilities when it comes to
              cartooning and comic creation. Everyone has their own style as well as interests and in
              cartooning you will decide what kind of story and style you would like to animate. The fun will
              not stop in this course as new ideas will be shared and practiced on a daily basis! A healthy

              ♦ TIE DYING/FRIENDSHIP BRACELET MAKING (Grades 3-8)
              The students will be able to explore their artistic side through a variety of activities.
              They will be creating several tie-dying projects using an assortment of materials; such as
              t-shirts, shorts, pillowcases, and a twin bed sheet. The students will have the opportunity to
              explore tie-dying techniques such as sunburst, lines, circles, and much more! They can even
              get extremely creative and stitch in a peace sign or a heart! The possibilities are endless.
              Also, each day the students will have the opportunity to make different types of friendship
              bracelets. The students will learn how to create a variety of bracelets including the following

              THEATER COURSES/PUBLIC SPEAKING

               BEGINNER THEATER (Grades K-2)
              This class for young children will introduce the art, creativity, and excitement of musical
              theater, puppetry, theater games, costumes, make-up, dancing, and acting. Students will
              actively participate in individual and group projects as an introduction to beginning theatrics.
              (Class will be held at 11a.m.). COST: $85.00

                             JUNIOR THEATER WORKSHOP 1 (Grades 3-5)
                             This class will be a total immersion adventure into the magical world of theater
                             through dramatic exercises and improvisational exploration. Students will have
                             the opportunity to learn skills that will help them on stage, including presence,
                             expression, focus, projection, and spontaneity. Students will also develop skills
              that will help them in life, including self-confidence, discipline, integrity, commitment, and
              teamwork. Children will learn and practice different acting, speaking, confidence, and self-
              esteem building skills while participating in exciting music and movement, improvisation,
              theatrical make-up, costuming, vocal, and performing exercises. The class will conclude with
              a scripted performance in which parents/guardians will be invited to attend. (Please note
              this is a two-hour course. Class will be from 9:00 to 11:00a.m.). COST: $170.00

               JUNIOR THEATER WORKSHOP 2 (Grades 6-8)
              This exciting class is designed for the intermediate drama student. This class is designed for
              the more experienced student who has performed on stage and has a working knowledge of
              drama terminology. This class will focus on enhancing acting skills, play writing, lighting and
              stage terminology, blocking, and improvisation. The class will conclude with a scripted
              performance which will be written and performed by the students. Parents/guardians will be
              invited to attend. (Please note this is a two-hour course. Class will be from 9:00 or

              your favorite tunes. Students will learn steps, routines and stretching. Learning to dance is
              not only learning coordination, but it also helps with memorization and thinking. Get ready for

              FAMILY AND CONSUMER SCIENCE

              Students will need an apron as they try new recipes daily while practicing kitchen safety. At
              the end of the course children will have a collection of recipes and enough “know-how” to be
              a big help in the kitchen. Each class will be limited to 12 students. THIS COURSE IS NOT
              RECOMMENDED FOR CHILDREN WITH ANY FOOD ALLERGIES. (Grades 2 & 3 at 9:00

              Using plastic needles, students will learn the basic techniques of sewing. Students will create

              covers, pillows, small stuffed animals and much more)! Hand sewn stitches will be covered,
              and students in grades 6-8 will be introduced to the sewing machine.

              Students will discuss and complete activities based on the read aloud. Children will

              MUSIC COURSES


               INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC (Grades 4-8)
              Put your musical skills to use and have fun performing different styles of music in a group
              setting. Musical styles will include classical, jazz, rock, and Broadway. Want to try a new
              instrument? Here’s your chance! Each ensemble will rehearse daily. No piano or guitar will
              be offered. Please specify your child’s level and instrument on the registration form. Class
              times will be determined based on the number of students, levels, and instruments.
              Levels include: Beginner (no experience), Intermediate (1-2 years of experience), and
              Advanced (3-5 years of experience). Please select (9, 10, or 11a.m.).
              COST: $100.00 per instrument

              ♦ LEARN TO SING (Grades 1 and 2, 3-5)
              The summer time is a perfect time to discover children’s talents and learn new skills.
              Students will have an exciting time learning to develop their vocal cords. Students will be
              encouraged to bring in their favorite songs to sing. They will learn basic vocal techniques.
              Students will be able to learn breathing techniques, warm up exercises and intonation
              exercises. We will have an enjoyable summer singing our favorite tunes. Please select (9,
