EXERCISE 1
OBJECTIVE: Using word to tab, and enter.

In this exercise, you will complete the letter, practice using the and
Keys, and allow Word wrap to do its job. You will also display non-printing characters.
Open a new document on word. Go to START, PROGRAMS, Microsoft Office (or open
document,) Microsoft Office Word 2003.

1. Type the following letter, using the and keys as indicated to insert
backspace
space at the beginning of lines and to create new paragraphs. If you make a typo, use
delete
or to delete it, and then continue typing. Let Word Wrap automatically wrap
the lines within the large paragraphs; only tap enter where indicated.

EXERCISE 2
Leave file open
OBJECTIVE: Using word to paragraph marks, bold, italic, font style and
Save as.
In this exercise, you will complete the letter by saving it to its proper file location.
2. Click the Show/Hide ¶ button on the standard toolbar. (the non-printing characters now
appear on the screen) enter
3. Observe the ¶ symbols showing where you tapped and notice the dots
representing spaces between words. Finally notice how the tab key generated little
arrows.
4. Click the Show/Hide ¶ button to turn off the non-printing characters (feel free to turn the
non-printing characters feature on and off as you wish during this course.
5. When the mouse pointer is in the typing area, it looks like an I beam | . To select text in
the typing area, place the I-beam over the text and:
Double-click to select one word.
Use the CTRL+CLICK to select once sentence
Drag to select as much text as you desire, and then release the mouse button.
Hold down SHIFT and tap → .
6. Place the mouse pointer behind the letter D on Date of birth
7. You will notice the I-beam blinking
8. Hold down SHIFT and use the right arrow → to select the sentence
(You an also position the mouse pointer behind the word and drag it to highlight)
9. Clicking one time in the blank typing area deselects highlighted text. You can also tap an
arrow key on the keyboard to deselect it.
10. This will highlight the word as you see above.
11. From the standard tool bar select Bold, Italic and change font to 20 pitch and font style to
BROADWAY.

12. Go to FILE, Save as, save in Z drive, file name it Georgina Letter and select SAVE, close
the document.

EXERCISE 3
With Word on, go to FILE, OPEN, LOOK IN THE Z DRIVE, OPEN, Georgina
Letter.
OBJECTIVE: Using word to Open documents, select all, center document
letter, Insert picture from CLIP ART.
In this exercise, you will open the Georgina letter and add from Clip Art.
13. With Georgina Letter open, go to the menu bar and click EDIT, SELECT ALL (or you
can also click CTRL+A. This will select your entire document in black highlight.
14. Move the mouse pointer into the typing area where it’s blank and give a single click to
deselect (remove) the highlighting.
15. Place the mouse pointer in the selection bar at the left edge of the screen just to the left of
the first paragraph.

16. Click once to select a line of text.

22. From menu bar click INSERT, PICTURE, CLIP ART. On Search for box, type: family
23. Position the mouse pointer on the desired image and drop-down arrow appears. You
click the arrow to see the pop-up menu from which you can choose the INSERT
command to place the image in your document. Or you can click on the picture and it
will insert.
24. The image now appears in your document.

OBJECTIVE: Using Clip Art, Clip Art Aligment
In this exercise, you will complete the letter with Clip Art and saving it to its proper file
location.
25. Click the picture and notice the border with eight black sizing handles surrounding the
image
26. Position the mouse pointer on the sizing handle and double-headed arrow will appear, as
shown here.
27. Drag the sizing handle slightly to increase the size image.
28. Move mouse pointer at the beginning of the first paragraph behind the letter I on I am
writing our family history.
29. Your I beam will blink.
30. Turn on your Show/Hide paragraph marks ¶
31. Tap three enter
32. Use your up arrow ↑ three times. This should take you on top of the page.
33. From the Menu bar click INSERT, PICTURE, WORD ART.
34. Select the following Word Art style and click ok.
35. Delete YOUR TEXT HERE and type FAMILY
36. click ok
37. The WordArt image is now in your document.
38. Click the WordArt object to select it. The WordArt toolbar
should open automatically. If the toolbar does not appear,
choose VIEW, TOOLBARS, WORDART for the menu bar.
39. click the WordArt shape button and choose the first shape in
the second row,

40. Select in the white area for toolbar to disappear. Save As Family in your drive. You
are done.

EXERCISE 5
Open a new document on word. Go to Start, Programs, Microsoft Office or
open document, Microsoft Office Word 2003.
OBJECTIVE: Student will design an attractive flyer using Microsoft Word
(2003)
You have just learned using tools from the standard toolbar. In this exercise, using all tools
learned in the Standard toolbar, you will complete a flyer of choice and turn it in to your
instructor.
QuickTips:
WHITE SPACE around your text makes it easier for people to read your flyer's content. Try
not to jam too much into one area.
Make sure you "ASK FOR THE SALE." If you want people to call you, make sure you say,
"Call so-and-so at XXX-XXX-XXXX" or "Call XXX-XXX-XXXX to register before (date)
for your early bird discount." Know what you'd like your reader to do... and ask them to do it
If your flyer is announcing a class or workshop, make sure all of your CONTACT
INFORMATION is included. Also, the time, place, and cost should be easy to find on the
flyer.
TOOLBARS - To use Word for flyers, make sure you have the right toolbars open. Go to
the menu bar select, VIEW, TOOLBARS. Select Formatting, Standard, and Drawing.

Save your flyer on your Z drive and give it a file name as FLYER. Print and turn in to your
instructor.
