Dear Sir/Madam,

                     The Thomas and Margaret Roddan Trust

An application form is enclosed herewith.

The Trustees are prepared to consider applications for bursaries on the following
basis:-

1.      Bursaries will, in general, range from £500 to £3,000 and may be awarded to
        undergraduates who have completed at least one year of study,
        postgraduates undertaking taught courses or postgraduates engaged in
        research for a higher degree.

2.      Awards may be made to students having their ordinary residence in Scotland
        and studying anywhere in the world (including Scotland) or students having
        their ordinary residence outside the United Kingdom and studying in Scotland.

3.      Applications must be signed by the applicant and countersigned by a member
        of the University staff holding a senior academic or administrative
        appointment.

4.      Applications received after the first Monday in July (the Fourth) will not be
        eligible for consideration.  This requirement is absolute and no exceptions
        will be allowed.

5.      The Trustees can only deal with one correspondent at each University or
        Institution of Higher Learning and applications must come through the
        Principal’s Office or one department however many Faculties or Departments
        are involved.       Applications sent in by students themselves cannot be
        considered.

6.      Not more than ten applications from any University or Institution can be
        considered.

7.      It would be helpful to the Trustees if guidance could be given as to which
        applicants are the most deserving.

8.      Every effort will be made to intimate the results of applications by 19 August.

9.      Notwithstanding the foregoing the Trustees remain willing to consider, as they
        have in the past, applications made at any time in circumstances of acute
        unforeseen hardship.
