SCAEA Art Walks What is an Art Walk? Art Walks are art teacher field trips to different areas of the state to explore art and art resources. Some walks will include workshops and seminars. Some will include meals and admission costs. Most will provide recertification points for teachers. All will provide time for art teachers to talk, make connections, and experience the richness of art resources in our state. Where will Art Walks be held? We’ve already visited Sumter and Edgefield and we have plans to visit BrookGreen Gardens, York County, Beaufort, and many other venues across the state and in nearby states. How often will Art Walks be held? The plans are to hold one Art Walk a month. Exceptions will include August and October as those are the months for regular conferences. Who can host an Art Walk? Any member who is interested in hosting an Art Walk in their area should contact Laura McFadden. The host should be ready to present information, lesson plans, an art demonstration, or help with scheduling and directions. The details will depend on the site and the needs of the group. Why are Art Walks only announced by email? The cost of printing information and mailing to all members would make Art Walks too expensive and logistically hard to schedule. Anyone who wants can be added to the electronic newsletter list by emailing Laura McFadden, Lmcfadden@fsd1.org. Members who receive e-news now are encouraged to pass the information on to other art teachers.
