       Most people in this country feel that the United States is the greatest country in the world. It also
offers a number of tourist attractions, including historical sites, natural land formations, cultural centers,
amusement parks, beaches, and other forms of entertainment. America isn’t just a nice place to live; it’s
a great place to visit.

      Write a persuasive essay in which you argue that people from other parts of the world should
spend their vacations in the United States.

Be sure to include
    a clearly stated argument and supporting evidence to back up your claim.

       The school board is debating on whether or not to mandate school uniforms. Write a persuasive
essay either for or against the idea. In your essay, be sure to provide specific examples for or against
the idea. Be sure to address the other side of the argument as well. Also, explain how the school
environment would be better with or without a uniform policy. Write a persuasive letter to your school
board defending your position.

Be sure your letter:
    includes your viewpoint on the issue with your reasoning
    addresses the other side of the issue
    explain how the school would be better with or without a uniform policy
    includes an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion

       Some people feel that the public school system does not adequately prepare students for the
real world. Identify one improvement you think schools need to make in order to better prepare
students for life after high school.

       Write a persuasive letter to the school board in which you describe this improvement. Be sure to
explain your proposed improvement. Tell the school board how this improvement will make the school
environment better overall. Make sure you address their possible concerns with your plan. Also,
describe how this improvement will make students more prepared for life in the real world.

 You will have the opportunity to choose one of three persuasive essay prompts to write for your persuasive formal
  writing piece for quarter 3. The three prompts are found the backside of this paper.
 This will be graded with the I-STEP writing rubric that we used when we graded sample I-STEP essays in class.
  No, it will not be worth only 10 points! You will be graded on each section of the rubric – meaning the content will
  be worth 24 points, and the grammar will be worth 20 points (totally 44 points).
 We will go through the writing process with this prompt. (See the calendar below).
 This will be hand-written. Yes, hand-written! We will talk about this later in class.
