									                     International Symposium
                         Marital and Family

                              2oth-22nd October 2006

We gather outside the Hall.
After a brief word of welcome we pray together:

Open our hearts, Most loving Father
                                    and enlighten us
by the grace of your Holy Spirit,
                                    that we may seek
                           what is well-pleasing to your will;
                                 and so order our lives
                          according to your commandments,
                                  that we may deserve
                           to enter into your unending joy;
                               through Christ our Lord.

As we move into the Hall, we invoke the guidance of the Holy Spirit during the
Symposium. Please join in singing

Spirit of God rest on your people:
waken your song deep in our hearts.

Until we have all arrived in our places, please remain standing.

The Presider says:

All praise and thanks are yours,
                                  Heavenly Father:
you have created families in your image
and have chosen us to be followers
                                 of Jesus your Son.
Look with mercy on all here present
and those with whom we live at home.
Help us to see and give thanks
                            for the formidable energy
                           with which you have graced
                              your domestic church
May we work together in harmony
and grow in love by all we do.

                                  Loving Father,
                                 we ask this grace
in the name of Jesus the Lord.

Please be seated

Opening words from Bishop John Hine

A pause for quiet reflection focussing on Listening2004

                         Reflection by Bishop Hine

The Scripture will then be proclaimed.

                            Song of Songs 8: 6-7, 14

Set me as a seal on your heart,
                              As a seal on your arms;
For love is strong as death,
                            Passion fierce as the grave.
Its flashes are flashes of fire, a raging flame.
                              Many waters cannot quench love,
                                neither can floods drown it.
If one offered for love all the wealth of one’s house,
                                it would be utterly scorned.
Make haste my beloved, and be like a gazelle
Or a young stag upon the mountain of spices!

                                   The Word of the Lord
                                    Thanks be to God

Prayer of Intercession
Please join the response after each intention.

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come,
thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us,
and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

The peace of the Lord Jesus be always with us
And with those who love and care for us

Let us share with each other a sign of that peace.

The grace of Our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy
Spirit be with us all, evermore. Amen.

Let us bless the Lord
Thanks be to God.
