The root account

The root account Next you'll be asked to supply a password for the "root" account. The root account is assigned to the system administrator for maintenance and has privileged access to all resources and settings of the computer. This account should be used only when necessary to tweak system configuration and is not for daily use. Keep the root password in a safe place, in your memory. It is the key of your system security. If you think your password has been compromised you should change it immediately. Fig. 1.23 On this screen you set up the root account, leave the authentication to local files. Remember always use strong password (letter and numbers). A normal user account You can also set up your regular user accounts next, same policy should apply to regular accounts (use a strong password; if it is compromised change it immediately). Fig. 1.24 You can add all your users here if you want to however we will learn more about system management later in this series.  Click Done to continue. Setting up the login mode In Mandrake Linux 9.0, a user can be chosen to automatically login and be taken to the desktop.
