 Dear Friends,
We are very pleased to be able to send you the agenda for our Michaelmas gathering for members of the
School of Spiritual Science which we finalized during the summer session of the Collegium of the School of
Spiritual Science, and which will take place from
 3:30 pm Wednesday, September 26, to 5:00 pm Saturday, September 29, 2012
Our work will focus on the question of the nature and cultural task of the Goetheanum building, founded as
a school of spiritual science by Rudolf Steiner on September 20, 1913. This building, through its foundation
                                                                                2
stone verse, has an inner connection to the research on the Fifth Gospel. It also stands as a landmark for a
cultural impulse that encompasses all areas of life and has become the starting point for a worldwide working
community. Therefore a central question of our gathering will be – how can we revitalise the ways of working
in the School of Spiritual Science that are necessary for the progress of our work, developing it further in the
21st Century? This concerns our ways of working in the School, our handling of the mantrams, and the imple-
menting of the Sections, with their task of contributing to a new sacred mystery culture. It also concerns the
qualities that Rudolf Steiner mentioned with regard to a second and third Class. During the Christmas Con-
ference Rudolf Steiner sketched the structure of the School of Spiritual Science by indicating the three clas-
ses by horizontal lines and the Sections with their fields of work through vertical ones (see diagram below3).
What forms of spiritual community building are indicated by this and need to be developed? What forms of
working are appropriate for a group of people who want to bear responsibility
directly to the spiritual world, as is the case for members of the Michael
School? And how is this affected by the fact that our esoteric material has
been published? We at the Goetheanum are very concerned with these and
other questions – and we are looking forward to discussing them with you.
We would also like to draw your attention to a conference that will be held
September 28-30, 2012, in Cologne, Germany, to celebrate the 100th anniver-
sary of the Anthroposophical Society, which already had an international
reach one hundred years ago (www.zeitzeichenzwölf.de). Members of the
Executive Council and the Collegium of the School of Spiritual Science will
contribute to that event as well. The two conferences signify the close con-
nection between the Anthroposophical Society and the School of Spiritual
Science that it supports. They will also enable us to experience something of
the reality of a Michaelmas festival, which can awaken enthusiasm through
our becoming conscious of the meaning of being human, in our personal
lives and in social life in general, particularly through feeling connected in
spirit – regardless of the constraints of space.
 With warm greetings –
Michaela Glöckler on behalf of the Collegium of the School of Spiritual Science: Oliver Conrad, Jean Michel Florin,
Christiane Haid, Ueli Hurter, Constanza Kaliks, Johannes Kühl, Paul Mackay, Florian Osswald, Bodo von Plato,
