METALS OR NON METALS?
(This task was intended as a starter activity to be used within QCA unit 9e lesson 1.)
Ask pupils to quickly complete the 1st & 2nd columns in the table by ticking those materials
which are metals and then those which are elements. They should then begin to give
reasons for their choices which can form part of a class discussion.
Nb: This activity may help elicit misconception e.g materials are for clothing/building, all
metals are magnetic, compounds are mixtures. It can also make use of the periodic table.
