Term 1 HT 1 All Saints’ Catholic Primary School Sept’ 2011 Year 3 Newsletter Our Work this Half Term Religion: Our first focus for the half term is Homes and Families. We will be exploring the things that make home and family special to us and that we are all part of God’s family. To support us in our work, please could you provide a clearly labelled photograph of your child within a family group from which they could share a happy memory. We will also be giving attention to the revised text for mass. You child will bring home a copy of the People’s Text. Please encourage them to become familiar with this. Literacy: We will be learning about Narrative (settings and dialogue), Plays and Poetry. Your child will benefit from reading texts linked to these themes in addition to their reading book. Numeracy: Our work will involve us in learning about: Place Value, Counting on and back in 1’s, 10’s and 100’s, Addition, Describing 2D shapes, Lines of Symmetry and using measurements for Length. Our first Topic is Mighty Mountains – Our Precious Earth. As well as learning about geographical features and environmental issues, this topic will link to Science, Design Technology, Art and ICT. The theme of our S.E.A.L’s work is New Beginnings. Homework will be given each Monday, beginning 12.09.11, to be returned on Thursday of the same week. Manchester United Football Club Foundation Year 3 are fortunate to be part of a project led by coaches from MUFC Foundation that will raise the children’s awareness of sport, health and exercise. The project begins Wednesday 7th September and will run for seven weeks. Sports Kit will be needed for each session. Healthy and Active! Dates For Your Diary: Sports kit is needed on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Whole School Mass: Friday 9th September: 9:15 Please ensure that all items of your child’s Harvest Festival: Friday 30th September: 9:15 uniform are clearly labelled. Y3 Mass: Friday 7th October: 9:15 Thank you for encouraging your child to bring a healthy snack for morning break. PARENTS’ EVENING: You may wish for your child to bring a bottle of Wednesday 19th October: 3:30 – 6:00 p.m. water. Children are permitted to have a drink of water only during lesson time.
