 2012 Summer Voluntary Prekindergarten (VPK)

What is the Summer Voluntary Prekindergarten (VPK) Program?
It is an intensive program designed to prepare children for Kindergarten
through a 300 hour program offered June 12th to August 10th, 2012
for seven hours a day. (Monday through Friday, 8:15 am – 3:15 pm)

What is the cost of the program and who is eligible?
Summer VPK is free and open to all children who were four years old by
September 1, 2011, are residents of Florida, and were not enrolled in VPK
during the 2011-12 school year.

How do I enroll my child in the Manatee County School District’s
Summer VPK program?

Follow these steps:

1.) Go to Early Learning Coalition (see the address below). You must obtain
a Certificate of Eligibility (COE) from them. You will need your child’s
birth certificate and proof of Florida residency to obtain a COE (FL
identification card or drivers license, utility bill, pay stub, etc.) For
additional information, call (941) 757-2900 ext. 102.

2.) After receiving your Certificate of Eligibility, take the COE, your child’s
Birth Certificate, original Certificate of Immunization and original Physical
Examination Certificate to the Parent Information Center, 234 Manatee
Avenue E., Bradenton, FL and complete a registration packet beginning
May 7th. The Parent Information Center’s phone number is (941) 708-
4971. You will receive a Notice of Confirmation after completing the
registration packet and submitting it to the Parent Information Center
beginning May 29th, 2012.

Where will the program be offered?
Parents may choose which VPK school site their child will attend from the
following elementary school locations:

   ▫ Kinnan Elementary ▫ Manatee Elementary ▫ Palm View Elementary
     ▫ Rowlett Elementary ▫ Tara Elementary ▫ Wakeland Elementary

Are meals provided?
Yes. Breakfast and lunch are included in the school day at no cost.

Is transportation provided?
No. It will be the responsibility of the parent to provide their own
transportation.

What are the attendance requirements?
Regular attendance is required. Attendance verification forms must be
signed by parent at the end of every month.

What credentials are required for the VPK teacher?
Summer VPK instructors are required to have a Bachelor’s degree or higher
and hold a current Professional Educator’s Certificate.

What is the student-teacher ratio for Summer VPK?
One teacher will be assigned to every 12 students.
