11   TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR LIZZIE PADGET UPON THE
12   OCCASION OF HER RETIREMENT AFTER THIRTY-EIGHT
13   YEARS AS AN EDUCATOR IN RICHLAND SCHOOL
14   DISTRICT TWO, AND TO WISH HER MANY YEARS OF
15   CONTINUED HEALTH AND HAPPINESS IN ALL HER
16   FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

18   Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are pleased to
19   learn that Lizzie Padget will be honored for her many years of
20   service in Richland School District Two after a performance of
21   Seussical the Musical on Friday, February 17, 2012; and
22
23   Whereas, born in Columbia on March 30, 1951, she earned a
24   bachelor’s degree in elementary education from the University of
25   South Carolina, as well as a master’s in reading, a masters’ plus
26   thirty in guidance, and certification in library-media science; and
27
28   Whereas, in 1973, she began her career at E. L. Wright Middle
29   School, where she taught reading and established the Title I
30   Reading Lab; and
31
32   Whereas, she taught a course in exploratory arts and then ALERT
33   (Active Learning Experiences in Resourceful Thinking), and she
34   was only the fifth ALERT teacher in Richland School District
35   Two; and
36
37   Whereas, in 1988, she moved to Forest Lake Elementary School
38   with the ALERT program and became the media specialist for the
39   school, and in 2003, she earned the prestigious National Board
40   Certification; and

 1   Whereas, she was named Teacher of the Year for 1990-1991 in
 2   Richland District Two and the 2004-2005 Media Specialist of the
 3   Year for the South Carolina Association of School Librarians, and
 4   she received a commendation from the ALERT Parent-Advisory
 5   Council in 1993 and the Richland District Two Culture of
 6   Excellence Award in 2005; and
 7
 8   Whereas, she is a dedicated member of Ebenezer Lutheran Church
 9   where she serves as the church librarian, and she is a member of
10   the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, a professional
11   honorary society for women educators; and
12
13   Whereas, in her retirement, she hopes to spend more time
14   traveling; visiting her children, Anna, Adam, and Emily; and
15   mentoring students at Forest Lake Elementary School; and
16
17   Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are grateful
18   for the years of loyalty and devotion that Lizzie Padget has
19   tirelessly given to educating the young minds of our State, and
20   they wish her much joy and fulfillment in her well-deserved
21   retirement. Now, therefore,

23   Be it resolved by the Senate:
24
25   That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution,
26   recognize and honor Lizzie Padget upon the occasion of her
27   retirement after thirty-eight years as an educator in Richland
28   School District Two, and wish her many years of continued health
29   and happiness in all her future endeavors.
30
31   Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to
32   Lizzie Padget.
