BECOME A PART OF THE “BRING YOUR BOOK TO LUNCH
WE ARE ASKING FOR TEACHER VOLUNTEERS
What is the “Bring Your Book to Lunch Bunch”?
This is a student/staff book club that will meet in the Media Center
during lunch three times a grading period. The book club will read one of the
following award-winning books: Al Capone Does My Shirts, Heir Apparent,
or House of the Scorpion.
As a teacher volunteer, what would be my role?
You would serve as a table facilitator for 4 students. The facilitators
will have a copy of the book, the discussion questions, and the discussion
answers. You would enjoy a free lunch while sharing with the students your
love of reading. We are hoping that this venue provides an expanded learning
opportunity for everyone. Each time you meet you will have the same 4
students. This also provides some mentoring possibilities.
Who will be involved?
Students can sign up in their LA/Reading classes during the last two
weeks of September. We will draw 20 student names per lunch period.
Those students will be a part of the lunch bunch for the 3rd grading period.
(We will replicate the process each grading period with a new group of
students/staff.) We are asking for an administrator to be involved in each
lunch period as well as two teachers. We will also have a parent volunteer as
one table facilitator. The lunch bunch will only meet three times per grading
If I decide to be a lunch bunch facilitator, what should I do?
Let me know that you are a willing participant. I will bring you a copy of
the book you will be using, along with a copy of the discussion questions and
the answer key. I will also provide you with a calendar of events and the
reading assignment dates. (The books will be a breeze for you.) And then, all
you have to do is show up for a free lunch with a great bunch of kids.
How will the students find out about the “Bring Your Book to Lunch Bunch”?
I will have flyers posted all over campus. We will announce it on the
Wednesday Morning show. And, I would be happy to talk to your classes
when they come to the Media Center to check out books.
I have attached a document that we used for an article in the Flare
newsletter. It provides more of an overview of the program.
Please call me or email me if you have any questions or great ideas you would
like to add to the mix.
