Box 1996 Riverview, FL A non-profit organization for (813)310-4952 POW-MIA's and all American veterans President@RollingThunderFL11.com WWW.RollingThunderFL11.com News Release Rolling Thunder presents $10K to the Paws for Patriots Program of Southeastern Guide Dogs 30 April 2012 Rolling Thunder, Florida Chapter 11 was pleased to present a $10,000 donation to the Paws for Patriots program of Southeastern Guide Dogs on Saturday, 21 April 2012. It is called Rolling Thunder’s Annual Paws for Patriots Ride & Rally. However, Rolling Thunder only sets the table for the event. It happens because veteran & supporter groups such as the Special Forces Motorcycle Club and Old Town HOG of Brandon come from across the Tampa Bay region to Rally at The Lube in Clearwater. They come from the North, South, East and West to support their visually impaired brothers and sisters. Combine this with the generosity of sponsors; title sponsor, Allen-Duncan Insurance Agency of Titusville; major sponsor for two years, Fran Haasch Law Firm and other veteran organizations and businesses, $10,000 was raised for the second year in a row. Two years, four visually impaired veterans, sponsored for an intensive 26 -day training session where they regain the independence of sight. One only needs to meet LtCol Kathy Champion, USA (Ret.), to see our motivation. Kathy, a member of Rolling Thunder Florida Chapter 11, after serving 27 years, including tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, surviving 7 IED blasts, contracted a virus in Iraq that took her eyesight. Instead of feeling sorry for herself, Kathy acquired Angel, her guide dog, from Paws for Patriots and has made it her quest to help other soldiers in need of a service dog. Or, take the opportunity to talk to another brave warrior, Cpl Mike Jernigan, USMC (Ret.). While serving in Iraq, his vehicle was struck by a roadside bomb, causing him to suffer critical injuries, including loss of both eyes. He survived lengthy rehabilitation, including dozens of surgeries, and uses his experience to inspire others. Mike Jernigan and his guide dog, Brittani; along with SEGD Community Outreach Coordinator Helen Arnold and her guide dog, Troy, accepted the $10,000 check at a sponsor reception held at The Ride Factory, Ybor City. Rolling Thunder Florida Chapter 11 meets the 4th Saturday of every month at the Brandon Masonic Lodge, 203 North Moon Ave, Brandon, FL at 10 AM.
