ASSISTANT SHOP MANAGER – POTTERS BAR
Job Title ASSISTANT SHOP MANAGER

Job Summary
• To assist in managing all Charity Shop activities in order to achieve set targets,
and to maximise contributions.
• To promote the philosophy of the Peace Hospice
KEY TASKS: - Some tasks may be delegated but the postholder remains responsible for
ensuring that they are carried out satisfactorily.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. To oversee and manage the staff, including volunteers and other activities in the
shop during shop opening hours - 6 days per week.
2. To train and manage an effective team.
3. To maintain the working rota and to update weekly to ensure adequate cover.
4. To handle, sort and process all stock and deliveries and maintain the determined
shop floor stock levels.
5. To maintain Charity stock quality standards.
6. To follow charity stock pricing policy.
7. To ensure stock rotation criteria are met.
8. To ensure highest standards of presentation and display.
9. To implement the Shop Promotion Calendar to ensure maximum impact.
10. To monitor and check security of stock and cash on the shop floor and stock room
and report any shortfall to the Head of Trading.
11. To ensure the satisfactory completion of the daily till audit and that all takings
are deposited at the bank, and that all records and administrative paperwork are
completed and delivered on time.
12. To ensure the shop is open during agreed trading hours.
13. To register with the police as a keyholder.

16. To perform all reasonable and related duties as directed by the Charity.
17. To undertake any other reasonable duties as required by the Shop Manager/Head
of Trading, including working at different locations if deemed necessary.
General Responsibilities
1. To ensure that your practice is in accordance with Peace Hospice Policy at all
times. Be aware of the Peace Hospice Philosophy and the Peace Hospice Code of
Conduct Policy.
2. Ensure compliance with Manual Handling and Health and Safety policies relating
to your activities.
3. Be aware of the procedure to follow in the event of fire and other emergencies.
4. To report to your line manager any hazards or accidents that may occur in your
working environment and ensure compliance with the terms of the Health and
Safety at Work Act.
5. Ensure that all equipment used by you in the course of your duties is used
appropriately, and any faults or breakage’s are reported immediately.
6. Participates in the ongoing system of Appraisal.
7. Be aware of the differing roles and responsibilities of the members of the multi-
disciplinary team in the Hospice.
Education
1. Participates in appropriate internal and external educational programmes.
2. Demonstrates ongoing personal and professional development in accordance with
own Appraisal.
