Position Title: Braddock Farms Intern Deadline to Apply: January 20th, 2012 Compensation: $3,000 stipend Timeline: April 1, 2012 to September 30, 2012 (start date and end date are flexible depending on school schedules) Hours: The intern will work 20 hours per week with flexibility to work early mornings and on weekends. Description Grow Pittsburgh’s Braddock Farms is a 1 acre production site located in the Borough of Braddock, PA. The farm grows a large variety of crops using organic practices that are sold at our weekly farm stand in town, as well as to restaurants in and around Pittsburgh. Braddock Farms serves as a model of urban agriculture, hosting many tours, school groups, volunteers, and teenage summer interns over the course of the growing season. With the direction of the Braddock Farms Manager and Apprentice, the Braddock Farms Intern will work on many aspects of the farm during the season. The work will include planting, maintenance, harvesting, marketing, and record keeping. Qualifications General: • Regular availability Monday-Saturday, not exceeding 30 hours per week. Schedule varies during the course of the season Technical: • A strong interest in sustainable and organic agriculture, vegetable gardening, and urban agriculture. Prior farming experience preferred. • Able and willing to work independently and learn quickly • Attention to detail, including record keeping Physical: • Able and interested in physical labor, in heat and cold, rain and snow • Able to lift and carry 50 lbs.
