                VICE CHANCELLOR FOR DEVELOPMENT & UNIVERSITY RELATIONS

Fayetteville State University seeks nominations for, and expressions of interest in, the position
of Vice Chancellor for Development & University Relations.

A constituent institution of the University of North Carolina, Fayetteville State University (FSU)
is a regional comprehensive university, offering degrees at the baccalaureate and master’s levels
and a doctorate in Educational Leadership. FSU is located in the City of Fayetteville, the sixth
largest municipality in North Carolina and Cumberland County, the fifth-largest county in the
State.

FSU seeks new advancement leadership to continue its momentum in fund raising,
strengthening the advancement division’s effectiveness and performance, increasing the
University’s access to philanthropic resources, promoting the image of FSU and managing
efforts to enhance the University's reputation.

The Vice Chancellor for Development and University Relations at FSU is responsible for the
leadership of all development, alumni/ae relations and marketing/public relations programs.
He or she reports to the Chancellor of the University and serves as a member of his cabinet. The
Vice Chancellor is responsible for building private support for the institution through the
management of an integrated, comprehensive program of external relations, including but not
limited to annual giving, major and planned giving, corporate and foundation giving,
alumni/ae relations, prospect research, donor relations and stewardship, gift processing and
acknowledgement, marketing and public relations, crisis communications and University
publications, and special events.

As a key member of the Chancellor's cabinet, the Vice Chancellor will be a part of Fayetteville
State University's senior management team.

The successful candidate must hold at least a bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline, a
master's degree is preferred; a minimum of ten years of progressive experience in institutional
advancement.

Additionally, the ideal candidate will possess the following experiences, skills and attributes:

      A proven record in fund raising, experience in leading an integrated staff and
       developing strategic priorities, and the ability to build a strong advancement program.

      Substantial knowledge of, and ideally experience in, the full range of advancement,
       including marketing, alumni/ae relations, annual funds, planned giving, organizational
       giving, donor relations, and operations.
       Successful experience at the leadership level in a large fund-raising campaign; track
        record as a successful major/principal gift fund raiser, preferably in a higher education
        setting.

       Excellent communication skills, including the ability to represent FSU in public, to
        engage people individually, to build consensus, to write compellingly, and to listen
        effectively.

       An inclusive, people-centered management style and an appreciation for the mission
        and culture of FSU and HBCUs.

       A commitment to a program that is accountable for its productivity and that measures
        that productivity actively and effectively; an appreciation for, and experience with,
        applications of technology within an advancement operation.

       The personal qualities of trustworthiness, openness, accessibility, kindness, flexibility,
        and a sense of humor.
