       A RESOLUTION memorializing First Lieutenant William Blake Satterly.

       WHEREAS, one of the greatest gifts one human can bestow is the offering of one's

life for the ideals a nation possesses; and

       WHEREAS, First Lieutenant William Blake Satterly of the 47th Airlift Flight of the

United States Air Force, through his service in the Air Force, was prepared to sacrifice

himself for his family's, friends', state's, and nation's good; and

       WHEREAS, Lieutenant Satterly was a patriotic native son of the Commonwealth,

born in Lexington, graduated from Henry Clay High School in 1991, served in the United
States Army for four years, entered and graduated from the University of Kentucky in

1999, while serving in the United States Air Force ROTC, and upon graduation joined the

United States Air Force in 2000 at Wright Patterson Air Force Base as a Second

Lieutenant; and

       WHEREAS, on February 2, 2002, First Lieutenant William Blake Satterly died in

the service of his country as his aircraft crashed near Ellsworth Air Force Base; and

       WHEREAS, in addition to his service to the United States, he was the devoted son

to his parents, William S. Satterly and Rita Kay Thornbury Canupp; a devoted husband to

his wife, April White Satterly; loving father to his daughters, Meghan Elise and Amber

Nicole; brother to Joel T. Satterly and Lora Beth Lyster; and also a devoted stepson and



Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the General Assembly of the

Commonwealth of Kentucky:
       Section 1. The House of Representatives does hereby express its profound sense of

sorrow at the passing of First Lieutenant William Blake Satterly, and simultaneously

expresses its pride in William Blake Satterly centered in his devotion to the security of
the Commonwealth, the United States of America, and the peoples within, and extends its

condolences to his family and friends in their time of bereavement.

       Section 2. When the House of Representatives adjourns this day, it shall do so in

the honored memory of First Lieutenant William Blake Satterly.

       Section 3. The Clerk of the House of Representatives is directed to transmit a copy

of this Resolution to William S. Satterly, 285 T Rosemont Garden, Lexington, Kentucky
