Job title:          Family Learning Sessional Tutor (Term time only)

Reporting to:    Family Learning Manager

Grade:          Sessional rate £28.00/hr



Job description
Purpose of the            To work as part of the Adult Learning Services teaching team to develop and teach a variety of
post:                      Family Learning programmes across the borough.
                          To develop and deliver courses that involve hard to reach parents more actively in their children’s
                           learning and schools
                          To fully assess and progress all learners to ensure the best learning for individuals

Main duties and           Work as part of the Curriculum team to plan and deliver a series of Family Learning courses that will
responsibilities:
                           -   develop the literacy, numeracy and ICT skills of parents
                           -   introduce parents to financial capability and money management
                           -   help parents enhance their skills in supporting their children’s development
                           -   identify literacy needs and embed where possible or refer learners appropriately to other
                               provisions
                          Work in close collaboration with participating schools/children’s centres settings and relevant staff
                           (head teachers, teachers, family involvement officers, children’s centres) on all aspects of family
                           learning projects to ensure high standards of teaching and learning in line with Common Inspection
                           Framework guidelines.
                          Assist in recruitment and publicity for courses in collaboration with appropriate staff including liaising
                           with family support workers and teachers, taking part in welcome meetings with parents/carers.
                          Develop Family Learning resources for adult learners in the community.
                          Deliver training to existing providers and tutors to improve awareness, performance and delivery of
                           Family Learning provision and promote parental engagement
                          Maintain accurate records of enrolments, course attendance, progress and achievement of learning
                           goals of adult learners and their children. Complete end of course reports and paperwork.
                          Carry out aspects of planning and evaluation of programmes
                          Work with the IAG service to ensure appropriate progression routes from/into Family Learning
                          Attend staff meetings and undertake appropriate training opportunities consistent with developing
                           skills relevant to the duties and responsibilities of the post.
                          Carry out other reasonable duties as may be required by the Head of Service or relevant line
                           manager, commensurate with the function and grade of post.

 2.    Qualified teacher status (ie Skills for Life Adult Literacy/numeracy tutor or qualified           
       school teacher, familiar with adult learning)

 3.    The post holder must be able to travel to various sites around the borough                        

 4.    Recent continuing professional development in family learning                                                       

 5.    Proven track record of teaching Family Learning/EYFS courses                                      

 6.    Experience of using RARPA                                                                         

 7.    Experience of curriculum development, preferably in Family Learning/EYFS                          
