Western New Mexico University has served the people of the state of New Mexico
and its surrounding areas as a comprehensive, regional, rural, public coeducational
university since 1893 and caters to a student body diverse in age, culture, language

More than 3,300 students are enrolled at WNMU’s five campuses located in Silver City, Lordsburg, Deming,
Gallup and Truth or Consequences. Students enrolled in exclusively online courses are located throughout the
country. The student body’s diversity is represented in its enrollment with students coming from 18 countries.

Degrees and Certificates
WNMU offers more than 70 areas of study. Ten master degrees, 41 baccalauereate degrees, and 18 associate
degrees and certificate programs are available. Fields of study include accounting, criminal justice, education,
nursing, occupational therapy, and zoology.

Interdisciplinary degrees are offered to students who choose to emphasize their studies in two disciplines.

Extended University
A growing list of courses and degree offerings are offered through the Extended University for online students.
Students from anywhere in the world can earn degrees exclusively online including the Master of Arts in Inter-
disciplinary Studies, Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice, and Bachelor of Arts in Rehabiliation Services
degrees. More than 100 courses are offered online each semester.

WNMU is accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools and by the New Mexico State
Board of Education. The School of Education is nationally accredited by the National Council for Accreditation
of Teacher Education (NCATE). WNMU’s programs in social work, nursing, occupational therapy assistant,
and economic development are nationally accredited. The School of Education and Child Development Center
have also received their respective accreditations.
Western New Mexico University
University Setting
WNMU is located in the mountain community of Silver City, population 10,000, which serves as the marketing
financial center for a vast four-county area extending west to Arizona and south to Mexico. The Gila National
Forest provides opportunities for camping, backpacking, hunting, and fishing. Annual community activities

Mustang Athletics offers an opportunity for student athletes to earn a quality education while pursuing their ath-
letic dreams and careers. WNMU is a member of the NCAA Division II and highly competitive Rocky Moun-
tain Athletic Conference. WNMU Mustangs participate in softball, football, tennis, volleyball, basketball, golf,
and cross country.

Quality University
WNMU has continued to be recognized for its quality standards over the last decade. The University was pre-
sented the Zia Award in 2004, the top recognition given to organizations for performance excellence by Quality
New Mexico. WNMU is the first four-year university in the state to earch the QNMU Zia Award. QNM has
continued to recognize WNMU with Pinon and Companero honors in 2008 and 2009. WNMU was recognized
as the Large Business of the Year by the Silver City-Grant County Chamber of Commerce in 2006.

WNMU Facts
The WNMU main campus is located in Silver City, New Mexico at the foot of the Gila National Forest.
Extended campuses include Lordsburg, Deming, Truth or Consequences, and Gallup.

Students receive personalized attention from qualified instructors. More than 90% of WNMU’s professors have
terminal degrees and the student to faculty ratio is 18 to 1.

Tuition and Financial Aid
Tuition and fees for the 2012-2013 academic year is $2157.36 per semester for a full-time student. More than
80% of WNMU students receieve financial assistance each academic year. WNMU participates in the Western
Undergraduate Exchange program (WUE) allowing out-of-state students in 14 states to pay in-state tuition.

WNMU Museum
Founded in 1974, the WNMU Museum is located in Fleming Hall and is included in the National Historic
Register. Permanent exhibits and collections include the internationally famous Eisele Collection of Pottery and
Artifacts, one of the largets collections of Mimbres pottery and artifacts on permanent display in the world.
