Julie O’Brien is a CPA who began her accounting career as a staff accountant for the public accounting firm then
known as Cooper’s and Lybrand. Her first entry into government service was as an internal auditor for Cook
County Illinois. She left Cook County to become the assistant finance director for the Village of Oak Park.
Currently, she is the Controller for Lake County Illinois
She has served as the National Association of Counties representative to the Governmental Accounting
Standards Advisory Council since 2004. She is a member of the Government Financial Officers Association
currently serving on the Committee on Accounting, Auditing and Financial Reporting. She is a member of IGFOA
and served as the coordinator of the Women’s Network from 2000 to 2004. She was an attendee at the GFOA’s
Advanced Government Finance Institute.
Julie has an MBA from the University of Chicago.
