POSITION:      Instructors/Lifeguards (16)


DEPARTMENT: Parks and Recreation

LOCATION: Tillsonburg Community Centre

POSTING #: HR 40.12

STATUS: Student (8-15 hrs per week)
     (until approximately June 30, 2013)

REPORTS TO: Senior Program Coordinator

POSTING PERIOD: August 23 to August 29, 2012

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
Instructor/Lifeguard is responsible for the safety supervision of patrons and implementation of
swimming lessons at the Indoor Pool.


QUALIFICATIONS:
      Current Lifesaving Society Learn to Swim and Lifesaving Instructors
      AED Certification
      National Lifeguard Service
      At least 3 years aquatic experience required
      CPR “C” and Standard First Aid
      WHMIS
      Advanced Provincial Trainer Status in First Aid, Lifeguard Training or Instructor Training
       an asset
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
     As set down by the "Health Protection and Promotion Act - R.R.O. 1990, Reg. 565. The
      standards in these regulations must be adhered to or exceeded As set down by the
      Technical Standard and Safety Authority the Amusement Device Act must be adhered to
      or exceeded.
     Proficient knowledge of Emergency Procedures and use of equipment.
     Maintain swimming and rescue skills at certification level.
     All awards must be current at all times. Periodic re-testing of skills will be conducted by
      supervisors to ensure staff is able to meet all standards
     Enforce admission guidelines.
     Answer phone calls.
     Wear the staff uniform consisting of lifeguard shirt, suit and whistle, at all times while on
      duty.
     Exercise and promote good Public Relations.
     Endeavor at all times to work as a team with supervisors and fellow staff members.
     Report all accidents/incidents, problems or concerns to a Program Coordinator.
     Provide Instruction and Lifeguard supervision in the current Community Centre Aquatic
      Programs.
     Solid knowledge off all content and test standards for all Swim for Life and Lifesaving
      levels.
     Maintain daily records for classes (attendance, swim class progress, test sheets and
      report/progress cards).
     Maintain pool and facilities in a clean, sanitary condition.
     Attend all staff training sessions and staff meetings as scheduled by supervisors.
     Have a solid knowledge of all swimming programs to ensure the accurate relay of
      information to the public.
     Perform other duties as required.
     Must be available to work evenings and weekends.
