NOT PROTECTIVELY MARKED
10 January 2010
You may be aware that from September 2011 schools will receive an additional £430 for
each student who is eligible to claim free school meals.
The additional funding is provided to support the student’s education and to help raise
attainment and achievement.
In order to maximise resources available to our students, we would like to ensure that
all those who are eligible for free school meals actually register with the Local
Authority now. If your child is eligible to receive free school meals it is important that you
register by returning the attached form to the Local Authority by 20 January 2011, even if
your child does not actually wish to take up the free school meal. Please be assured that all
this information is handled by the Local Authority and not the School.
Please be aware that our biometric payment system means that other students will not be
aware that free school meals are being claimed. The free school meal allowance is
automatically loaded daily onto their account like everyone else. The value of the free school
meals allowance is presently £1.80, and it is also possible to “top up” the allowance by
loading extra money onto the account as normal.
In addition, we would like to encourage parents who either pay for school meals or who top
up their child’s free meal allowance to use the parent pay online payment system. For login
details please contact the School Finance Office on 01924 232846.
