his/her magnet seat at Battle Academy.

Students are required to maintain good attendance and be on time for school. The Battle learning
day begins promptly at 8:05 a.m. Students are counted tardy if they are not seated in their classroom
ready to begin their learning at 8:05 a.m. Students arriving after 8:05 a.m. MUST be accompanied to the
office and be signed in by a parent or adult guardian. Five unexcused absences will result in a
mandatory referral to the school social worker. Ten or more absences or twenty or more tardies
will result in a student losing his/her magnet seat in any Hamilton County Magnet School.
Parents are required to volunteer a minimum of 18 hours per school year per family and attend
two parent/teacher conferences at school. Failure to complete this requirement by April 30, 2013 will
result in the student (and siblings) losing his/her magnet seat in any Hamilton County Magnet School.
All parents will receive a copy of Hamilton County Magnet Schools’ Parent Volunteer Guidelines at
All school visitors must report to the office to sign in and pick up a badge before going anywhere
else in the school. An administrator must escort parents wishing to visit their child’s classroom during
the learning day to the classroom.
Parents may NOT drop off/pick up their children in front of the school on Market Street, on side
streets, Main Street or 17th Street, in the neighboring gravel parking lot or any location other than the
established car rider drop off/pick up line in the parking lot off Long Street. Students may be dropped off
between 7:35 a.m. – 8:00 a.m. and they may be picked up between 2:55 p.m. – 3:15 p.m. Breakfast is
served from 7:35 a.m. – 7:55 a.m. Students who arrive before 7:35 a.m. must be enrolled in School Age
Child Care. The registration fee for School Age Child Care is $10.00. Students who are not registered
for School Age Child Care cannot attend and will be held in the office. Parents will be charged $10.00
plus $6.00 to compensate the staff member supervising the student. All walkers must cross Market Street
with assistance from the crossing guard. Students should not cross the street at any other location.
During arrival time each child must unload at the established drop off area. Please do not tell your child
to jump out unless a staff member is ready to unload the car. Please do not instruct your child to cross
Long Street alone. Please be courteous to others and do not block parked vehicles. To pick up School
Age Child Care students, please park in a marked space or on the street and walk through the courtyard to
pick up your child. This is for the safety of our students, as extra cars in the parking lot put students at
Students may not be dismissed from school between 2:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. Dismissal prior to
2:30 p.m. will be counted as a tardy on the student’s attendance record unless dismissal is required for a
medical or dental appointment. A note from the doctor/dental office will be required. To dismiss a child
from school, a parent or adult guardian must sign him/her out in the office, and the teacher will be
notified. Parents should not go to the classroom to dismiss their child.
Hamilton County Department of Education Finance Department has implemented the following
policy regarding checks returned for insufficient funds. All NSF checks will be sent from the bank
directly to a collection company, which will collect the debt and collect a $45.00 fee for their service.
Since this policy has been implemented system wide Battle Academy has no control over the $45.00
fee and will not have the authority to have that fee waived.
