• To use this template, Duplicate the slides as
needed and customize them to fit your
problem.
• There are 4 backgrounds (one for each tab).
• These templates could be used by the
content creation teams to communicate their
“vision” of the PRAXIS Learning Object under
construction.
• Place as much information into this
powerpoint as possible. Include DPI
standards or other research that
resulted when the team studied the
problem. This can be included in a
series of pages near the front of the
powerpoint.

Rivers, like all objects on earth, flow downhill due to gravity.
Sometimes this path is north to south, but could flow in any
combinations of directions of the compass.

Directional flow of a river
Chalk Talk Script

Let’s take a look at our possible choices for this questions and rule some of them out. The most obvious one to start with is
(A) Form North to South If we look at the map we can see several examples of where this does not hold true.
For example here at the Columbia River, and just a little East at the Snake river. Clearly these rivers . Are not flowing
North to South, so we can rule out (A). Now, let’s think about what we know about how rivers are formed. Rivers are formed
in mountains and hills were water collects. We can also review what we know to be true of mountains areas.
Air pressure is lower in higher elevations. Since we know that rivers form in mountains where air pressure is less, then we
Can rule out answer (C). Another thing that we know about mountains is that vegetation is more dense at the base of the
mountain, so answer (D) can not be correct either. Therefore, the correct Answer is (B). Rivers flow from higher elevation to
lower elevation
