providing enduring access to them. In addition to the UCLA Library’s traditional
functions which include the acquisition, cataloging, preservation and making accessible
material of historical and cultural importance, the Library also fosters and facilitates
education, scholarship and the creation of new knowledge through digital collections and
The UCLA Library owns a collection of approximately 600 international AIDS posters
which have been selected by the Library to be digitized and displayed for research and
educational purposes on its Web site. The Library hopes that you share this vision of
preserving and providing public access to this collection and permitting researchers from
across the world to access them.
We therefore request your permission to digitize and to make your poster[s] freely
accessible to researchers for educational and research purposes. Your poster will greatly
enhance the research value of the collection as a whole.
