What is the goal of the Real Father’s Initiative?
To enhance the capacity for fathers to provide for and positively participate in the lives of their children
who are children in the care and custody of the Department of Child Services.
Promoting Responsible Fatherhood:
Real Fathers is committed to preparing fathers in the community to become responsible fathers.
Our program works in collaboration with the Department of Child Services-Lake County, Lake County
Superior Court Juvenile Division, Lake County Prosecutor’s Office – Child Support Division,
Community and Faith Outreach Initiative Ministry and numerous community organizations.
Engaged fathers positively affects the social, behavioral, psychological and cognitive outcomes of
children. Fathers are the source of family and economic stability.
Fatherhood Commitment Pledge:
As a responsible father, I commit to:
1. Spend time with my child.
2. Invest in my child.
3. Love my child.
4. Respect the mother of my child; and
5. Every day, I will be a good dad.
The mission of the program is to increase involvement by fathers and their families in the lives of their
children by providing prevention and treatment services.
This program engages and empowers fathers and their families to become involved in their children’s
lives. It addresses paternity issues, DNA testing and child support. Fathers are involved in parent support
groups, and receive 1:1 counseling for any mental health and substance abuse issues. Fathers receive
support in finding housing, employment, medical assistance, transportation and visitation with their
children. Pro bono legal services are provided in addition to any assistance in other legal issues. Co-
parenting and batterer’s groups also exist to help fathers improve relationships with the mother of their
