MONDAY February 14, 2011 - Assembly Day – Short Class Periods – Valentine Assembly
                           Nevada State Standards:1.1-Explore the Stages of Development through the human life-span

Objective(s): SWBAT:     Recognize a baby’s reflexes

Materials: Read pg. 235 – 236 - List 3 reflexes present at birth: rooting, grasp, startle reflex; Discuss smells newborns like –
milk, vanilla, banana and sugar (not vinegar) ; Baby bath tub – teacher demo how to bathe a newborn

Procedure:    Teacher will discuss pg. 235 – 236 and demo how to bathe a newborn for the class tomorrow

Assessment: Notes: Remind parents(volunteers) who will be taking the babies home on Friday




Tuesday- March 15, 2011                                  Nevada State Standards: : 1.1 Explore the Stages of Development
through the human life-span

Objective: SWBAT: Recall information gained from Chapt 7 The Baby’s Arrival

Materials:   Chapt. 7 Test

Procedure: Give Chapt 7 Test – remind students that next week we will be making a Baby Book from items they have from
when they were a baby – they must bring a notebook, baby picture, strand of hair, find footprints on internet of a baby’s feet
and try to find out their own blood type. Make a list of illnesses, they have had, surgerys and accidents during ages 1-5 yrs.
Talk to your parents concerning these items.

Assessment: 200 pts.given if student completed the parenting experience with no abuse or neglect and return baby on time
with all checked out items returned at the time of “check-in” on Monday morning. (those who do not volunteer will write a
term paper for the 200 pts. – to be given at the end of 4th quarter)




Wednesday February 16, 2011           Nevada State Standards: 1.1 Explore the Stages of Development through the human
life-span

Objective: SWBAT:      Continue with defining different methods of birth control

Bell Activity: What is meant by a baby’s temperment? How he behaves with family/strangers in general

Materials: DVD – Baby’s First Year – prepare questions Handout of SG pg. 25/26 birth control methods – find baby’s footprints
online – on stick

Procedure: Teacher go over and give definitions of the 2 methods on their handouts

Assessment: Assignment: Bring a notebook, baby pictures, sample of your hair, footprints, handprints, baby shower gifts,
anything that should go into a baby book. ( Show students the notebook – covered with fabric – to make baby book – for
themselves – pretending it to be their own baby) will begin the Baby Book about themselves next Monday Feb. 14,
Thursday February 17, 2011                           Nevada State Standards: 1.1 Explore the Stages of Development
through the human life-span (Begin Unit 3 – The Baby’s First Year)

Objective(s): SWBAT:   Continue birth control methods

Materials:   Handout for two birth control methods/

Procedure: Handouts – Teacher will define and explain the methods for today

Assessment: Test on Birth Control Methods Friday – on all handouts

Notes: Upcoming events – spiral notebook check on Friday – 25 pts.


FRIDAY - February 18, 2011                     Nevada State Standards: : 1.1 Explore the Stages of Development through
the human life-span

Objective: SWBAT: Be evaluated on Birth Control Methods

Materials:   (same as above)

Procedure: Remind students that babies are picked up at 1:00 p.m. Give TEST on Birth Control – Teacher made

Assessment: 200 pts.given if student completed the parenting experience with no abuse or neglect and return baby on time
with all checked out items returned at the time of “check-in” on Monday morning. (those who do not volunteer will write a
term paper for the 200 pts. – to be given at the end of 4th quarter)
