League of Women Voters Minnesota seeks applicants for the
Winter/Spring 2013 Leaders of Today and Tomorrow Fellows Program
The Leaders of Today and Tomorrow (LOTT) Program inspires college-aged and emerging professional women to envision
themselves as future leaders. The program is designed to develop young women’s potential to lead professionally, personally,
and in their communities. We accomplish this through:
Intensive seminars
Mentoring
Networking with today’s promising young women
Over the course of three months, fellows and mentors embark on an exciting journey of partnership, reflection, coaching, and
inspiration. Activities will include interactive discussions, a variety of guest speakers, and one-on-one mentoring.
LOTT Program Fellows are Women Who:
Want to make things happen (at school, in community or civic organizations, in internships or work experiences)
Value community and civic involvement
Work in collaboration with others to accomplish goals
Respect themselves, their peers and mentors, and those with different opinions or perspectives
Commit to personal growth and developing leadership qualities
Are in the final two years of a postsecondary degree program or are an emerging professional
Program Requirements:
The program will involve activities from November 2012 through April 2013. Attendance is required at all events. See the
application materials for specific times.

Resume: Please attach a professional resume including education, work experience, and community involvement.
Two letters of recommendation: Please attach two letters in sealed and signed envelopes. At least one letter
must be from an academic or professional contact, such as a faculty member or supervisor. Neither letter may be
from a family member.
Short responses to the following questions: Please provide a response to each of the following questions. Your
total response from both questions should not exceed 500 words.
(1) Why are you interested in being a LOTT fellow? What are your expectations of the program and what do you
hope to gain from your participation?
(2) What does “leadership” mean to you? Do you consider yourself to be a leader? Does “women’s leadership”
have a different meaning to you and, if so, in what way?
PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS
In order to receive the full benefits of our fellowship program, we require that fellows attend the following events
from November 2012 through April 2013. All workshops and meetings are held in St. Paul. These dates are subject
to change pending fellows’ schedules, but will be finalized by the orientation meeting.

LETTER OF RECOMMENDATION COVER SHEET
___________________________________, an applicant for the LOTT Fellows Program, requests that you write
a brief letter of recommendation in support of her application to the LOTT Fellows Program.
What is the LOTT Fellows Program?
The Leaders of Today and Tomorrow (LOTT) Program inspires college-aged women and emerging
professionals to become active citizens and to envision themselves as future leaders. LOTT is designed to
develop young women’s potential to lead professionally, personally, and in their communities. Over the
course of three months, fellows will participate in intensive leadership development seminars with
interactive discussions and a variety of guest speakers, one-on-one mentoring, and networking within the
extensive League of Women Voters Minnesota organization network of women.
Letter Guidelines
Your letter must be returned to the applicant in a sealed and signed envelope. Applicants must submit all
application materials, including your letter, in a single application packet on or before the close of
business on Friday, October 12, 2012.
Please address the following points in your letter: (1) your relationship to the applicant; and (2) your
assessment of how well the applicant meets the following selection criteria. Specific information
and examples are particularly helpful.
LOTT Fellows Selection Criteria:
Take initiative to make things happen (at school, in community or civic organizations, in
internships or work experiences)
Work in collaboration with others to accomplish goals
Have demonstrated leadership
Value community and civic involvement
